Such an awesome and needed resource!
In recognition of May as Supervised Visitation Awareness Month, we would like to share some facts around supervised visitation and hopefully allay some common misconceptions.
Visitation is the single biggest indicator of successful reunification. Positive, consistent, safe visitations are vital for parents and children who are separated. These visits help reduce the trauma of separation for children and helps to manage their feelings of abandonment. Supervised visitation creates a secure environment that mitigates risk and allows children to see their parents without fear of harm.
During visits, a trained monitor ensures physical and motional safety while allowing parents to continue and develop their parenting skills. Parents are allows to make parenting choices such as what the children eat and what activities they enjoy together. Children often have a wide array of behaviors and emotions before and after visitations. This is typical and is not an indicator that the visits are not productive or should be canceled, it just means there are a lot of feelings and emotions going on in their brains and bodies that need they need help to process.
Family Connections is our subsidiary program providing Supervised Visitation to families engaged in the the dependency neglect court system as well as private families in need of this service. We work together with families, caregivers, and community partners to create a safe, supportive, and child-centered space for supervised visitation. Through professionalism, clear communication, and compassionate care, we encourage healthy family relationships and positive outcomes for children.
Every connection matters!
