Let’s give a warm welcome to our next KIU instructor, Tammy Tolaas 🎉
Tammy Tolaas, originally from Virginia, began performing with King’s Kids in 1989. In 2002, she joined HeartBridge Inc., expanding her training into hip hop, ballet, jazz, modern, and contemporary, and moved to Kona, Hawaiʻi in 2005. She also joined YWAM, staffing Performing Arts programs at the University of the Nations (UofN) and traveling to 17 countries and counting.
Tammy has worked with Island Breeze Productions, Haugesund Theater (Norway), Sodium Dance Co., Ad Deum II Dance Company, and Project Dance, including producing Project Dance Hawaii & Refuel in 2022.
She holds a Performing Arts degree from UofN, a Certificate of Excellence from Broadway Dance Center (NYC), and a 500-hour Comprehensive Pilates Certification through BASI Pilates, training under Rael Isacowitz. Since 2016, she has served on UofN’s College of Arts leadership team, writing curriculum, leading dance programs, and launching both a youth dance studio and a Pilates studio in Kona.
People don’t fall in love with movement because of rigor & restrictions; those things are like guideposts that help us on our journey. We fall in love with movement because of how it makes us feel and the freedom it brings.
