Today, we remember and honor Robert Waldon Cameron Sr., a World War II veteran laid to rest at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

🌍 War: World War II
🗓️ Life: December 30, 1917 – November 7, 1983

Robert Waldon Cameron Sr. was part of the generation that answered our nation's call during World War II. As a Soldier in the United States Army, he joined millions of Americans whose service and sacrifice helped defend freedom during one of the most significant conflicts in world history.

The men and women of the Greatest Generation faced extraordinary challenges, serving far from home and carrying the responsibility of preserving liberty for future generations. Their courage, perseverance, and commitment continue to inspire us today.

This Freedom Friday, we pause to remember PVT Cameron, honor his military service, and express our gratitude for the freedoms secured by veterans like him.

Today we honor the life and service of Clifton Perry Calloway Sr., a veteran laid to rest at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

📍 Final Resting Place: Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens, Boone, NC
⚓ Service: Construction Electrician Constructionman (CECN), U.S. Navy Seabees
🗓️ Life: October 23, 1928 – March 15, 2009

Clifton Perry Calloway Sr. proudly served in the United States Navy as a Construction Electrician Constructionman (CECN), a member of the renowned Navy Seabees. Seabees are known for their unique mission of building and maintaining the infrastructure needed to support military operations around the world. Their work has supported service members for generations, often in challenging and dangerous environments.

Whether installing electrical systems, constructing facilities, or supporting military operations, Seabees have long exemplified skill, dedication, and service. Through his Navy service, Clifton contributed to that proud legacy.

Following his military service, Clifton built a life centered on family, faith, and community. Today, we pause to remember his service, honor his legacy, and express our gratitude for his contributions to both his nation and his loved ones.

🇺🇸 Mount Lawn Monday: Remembering Our Veterans 🇺🇸

Today we honor the life, service, and sacrifice of Lee Roy Calhoun, a Korean War hero laid to rest at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.

📍 Final Resting Place: Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens, Boone, NC
🪖 Service: Private First Class (PFC), U.S. Army
⚔️ Unit: 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division
🌍 War: Korea
⭐ Decoration: Silver Star (Posthumously Awarded)
🗓️ Life: October 7, 1932 – April 24, 1951

Lee Roy Calhoun proudly served with the 7th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War. At a young age, he answered his nation's call to serve, joining thousands of Americans fighting to defend freedom on the Korean Peninsula.

On April 24, 1951, PFC Calhoun made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his country. He was only 18 years old.

For his extraordinary courage and devotion to duty, he was awarded the Silver Star posthumously for gallantry in action. The Silver Star is the United States military's third-highest decoration for valor in combat and recognizes acts of heroism performed in the face of great danger.

Though his life was tragically brief, Lee Roy Calhoun's legacy of courage and selfless service lives on. More than seventy years later, we continue to remember a young North Carolina soldier who gave everything in defense of freedom.

Today, we pause to honor PFC Calhoun, reflect on his sacrifice, and ensure that his story is never forgotten.

While we may not have enough days to tell every story individually, we are committed to ensuring that every one of the approximately 700 veterans laid to rest at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens is remembered by name.

Johnny Smith Barnett served as a Private First Class in the United States Army during the Korean War, a conflict often referred to as the "Forgotten War." Yet for the Soldiers who served there, the sacrifices and challenges were very real. Army personnel endured difficult terrain, harsh weather, and demanding conditions while helping defend freedom on the Korean Peninsula.

Like countless veterans of his generation, PFC Barnett answered his nation's call to serve during a critical moment in history. His service helped uphold the values and freedoms that continue to define our country today.

Today, we pause to remember Johnny Smith Barnett, honor his military service, and express our gratitude for his dedication to our nation.
