Michael Lerner's new book, What Matters Now: 7 Healing Letters to a Friend with Cancer, was born from 40+ years of walking with people through cancer. These 7 letters offer companionship, wisdom, and hope.

Commonweal has a decades-long commitment to deep and soul changing work with cancer patients—starting with the Cancer Help Program more than 40 years ago and continuing with programs like CancerChoices, Healing Circles Global, and Collaborative for Health and Environment.

With heartfelt gratitude to all who have contributed to the process of bringing this book into the world. What Matters Now launches May 31 from Common Knowledge Press. Free digital access coming in June.

Join us next Sunday as we continue to celebrate 50 years of healing at Commonweal. Michael Lerner’s founding vision of Commonweal was as a center for healing ourselves and healing the earth. His understanding of healing has been transformed by more than 230 week-long Cancer Help Programs, by Healing Circles, and by many other experiences with personal healing, as well as by the emergence of the global polycrisis and what it signifies for planetary healing. He hopes to bring these threads together in the light of new research on what is known as “the hard problem of consciousness.”

It will mean so much to us to see you there, either in person or virtually, for a public day of reflection and conversation exploring healing at a time of transformation.
