Community Kitchen Community Kitchen serves anyone in need. We serve meals to anyone in need six days a week from two locations.

Community Kitchen of Monroe County's mission is to work, alone and in collaboration with others, to eliminate hunger in Monroe County and surrounding areas, through direct service, education and advocacy. We also have programs targeting at-risk children and youth, taking meals and healthy snacks to them where they are.

Come out to Fowler Pumpkin Patch tonight from 6-8pm for Celebrity Karaoke! Among those belting out tunes for Community Kitchen will be Jim Becker, Cailey Doering, Brigette Burns, Elizabeth Tompkins & Angela Williams. Pick your favorite song and join in the fun!

Come out for a nice evening of fall festivities, including the corn maze, hayrides, barnyard animals and Perry's Pumpkin Ale, along with karaoke to support Community Kitchen!

Come, join us this Friday evening from 6-8 at Fowler Pumpkin Patch, for fall festivities and karaoke! Great fall vibes, a pumpkin patch and karaoke! What more can you ask for on a Friday night!

Come out, bring your friends, grab a cold glass of Perry’s Pumpkin Ale, sing us a song and listen to some great singers for a great cause! Vote with $$ to see who does the best karaoke this Friday. Proceeds support Community Kitchen's hunger relief efforts.

We met (and exceeded) our goal! Thank you to all of you who helped us raise our 10,000 food items and qualify for a $10,000 cash match. We appreciate the way folks focused in on the items we most needed and made sure we got there. We raised the following food items:

SPAM - 1,178
Canned chicken - 1,108
Meal helpers - 1,269
Cereal - 1,209
Bread mixes - 1,392
Peanut butters - 1,001
Boxes of fruit cups - 1,000
Diced tomatoes - 1,316
Canned veggies other than green beans and corn - 1,000
Short pastas - 1,312

We were aiming for 10,000 food items and you provided 11,785! Thank you! Since many of these things are for Backpack Buddies and we're providing more than 550 of those each week, these donations will cover about two weeks of each of those Backpack food items.

Next week we have some really fun events for you to attend to support our cause!

Fowler's Pumpkin Patch will host Karaoke from 6:00-8:00 on Friday, October 16th. Bring your family and friends to hang out and do all the other fun stuff available at Fowler's, then head to the Karaoke stage at 6:00 to end the evening. You can vote (donations) for your favorite singer and the money goes to Community Kitchen to help us fight hunger. Or, if you enjoy performing, please come and sing for our cause. Bring all your friends and family to vote for you and let's make those donations roll in!

On Saturday, October 16th, the Bloomington Moose Lodge is hosting dinner, music and a live auction. The fun begins at at 5:30. Grab your sweetie and head to the Moose Lodge for a date night that supports Community Kitchen's programs to fight hunger.

1. 423 cans of SPAM (or store brand equivalent) - cheapest prices are Sam's Club or store brands at Kroger, Wal-mart or Aldi
2. 287 boxes of cereal (10-14.5 oz) - Kroger has a digital coupon for $1.00 off of 2 boxes General Mills; Wal-mart has some Great Value cereals for $1.97; Millville cereals at Aldi range from $1.99-2.75
3. 410 small bread mixes - Jiffy is $.75-.89 at Kroger and $.50-.87 at Walmart; Martha White is $1.39 at Kroger and $1.38 at Wal-mart
4. 121 16oz. peanut butters - Kroger brand is $1.99; Great Value brand is $1.99 and Jif is $2.98 at Wal-mart; Peanut Delight is $1.75 at Aldi
5. 281 boxes of fruit cups - Large boxes of Mott's applesauce at Sam's are the best price point; other options can be found for $2.45 - over $3 at Kroger, Wal-mart & Aldi

We've made our 10k for $10k goal on three of our ten items and are getting close on others. Our challenge has graciously been extended one more week to help us get there. If we raise 1,000 of each of ten food items we chose, we'll receive a $10,000 financial donation to match those 10,000 food items. Your food donation is multiplied!

We still need:
-146 cans of vegetables (not corn or green beans): Carrots, peas, mixed vegetables, etc.
-375 boxes of short pasta
-188 small (16oz) jars of peanut butter
-437 small bread mixes (like Jiffy or Martha Washington)
-338 boxes of cereal
-316 boxes of fruit cups
-430 cans of SPAM (or store brand equivalent)

We're 84% of the way to our goal and we know some folks have food deliveries coming. If you're able to help us out this week, we'd appreciate getting all the way to our goal!
