Mother Hubbard's Cupboard

Mother Hubbard's Cupboard Community Food Resource Center. At MHC, we believe access to healthy food is a basic human right.

We envision a community where everyone has equal access to nutritious food, waste is minimized, and all members are healthy, self-sufficient, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Meet Jane, this months Volunteer Spotlight! We snapped this photo on her first day at the pantry. Jane joined our volunteer crew in order to keep her schedule full in preparation for her upcoming retirement. In addition to volunteering at the Hub, Jane is active at UU church, likes to sing in the choir, and enjoys cooking and building community with her resilient supper club. Thanks for all you do, Jane!

šŸ“Œ Want to join our volunteer crew? Next orientations are June 16 at 3 pm or July 22 at 2 pm. See you there!

Did you know q***r folks are more likely to experience food insecurity? While 14% of folks who do not identify as q***r experience food insecurity, that rate climbs to at least 18% for q***r folks. Our transgender community members are up to 3 times more likely to be unsure where their next meal is coming from, according to National Institutes of Health data. That number is even higher for BIPOC trans folks. Fighting for food justice and equitable food access means fighting for the health and safety of q***r people. Let's do the work – this Pride month and beyond!

This weekend, our community lost the incredible Kayte Young after a brief illness. Among the many things Kayte was, we are thankful to have counted her as a member of the Hub staff from 2010 to 2017 and an enduring member of our Hub community. Her thumbprint will forever be on our educational programming. In her honor, we hope you will:

Can your ripe tomatoes, and make your blueberry jam.

Make the best pie crust you can. Find the most ripe fruit. Bake a pie, and eat it with your friends.

Cook with the kids in your life. Bring them into all you do, because they're cherished community members.

Make art. Tell the stories you hold, because only you can tell them.

Tend the garden gently, and accept that some things will fail because we are learning. Because we are human.

Love each other so big, and so much, that the only thing that makes sense is to be kind and tend to each other.

We miss you, Kayte.
