‼️ Leaving the NICU doesn't always mean the trauma is over.

In this powerful conversation, Graham's Foundation founder Nicholas Hall sits down with integrative mental health therapist and three-time NICU mom Atara Parkinson to discuss the often-overlooked emotional impact of the NICU experience on parents.

Together, they explore:
✨ Why hypervigilance, anxiety, and overwhelm can linger long after discharge
✨ How NICU trauma affects the nervous system
✨ Why many parents put their own needs aside while focusing on their baby
✨ The importance of finding support; whether through therapy, peer support, or other healing resources

One message shines through: there is no timeline for healing, and you don't have to navigate it alone.

If you've ever wondered why certain NICU memories still feel so close, or if you're looking for validation and support on your parenting journey, this conversation is for you.

❕June is PTSD Awareness Month❕
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects about 12 million adults every year. Many associate this condition with the experiences of soldiers but it affects many more Americans who have witnessed or experienced life-threatening and/or traumatic events.

Premature birth is traumatic in so many ways, and if you’re mired in guilt or anxiety or coping with PTSD, it’s a lot harder to adjust to life with a preemie in the NICU or at home. Your emotions following premature birth may be unpredictable and you may experience a lot of ups and downs. Letting yourself feel whatever you are feeling is okay, even if your emotions are different from what the people around you expect you to be feeling.

Talking about your feelings (with a therapist, a social worker, a good friend, or a preemie parent mentor) gives you a safe outlet for them and may make it easier to focus on your day to day life. Feelings, when shared, have a tendency to become less overwhelming.

If you are experiencing PTSD, please seek help.

🫶🏿 From the NICU to pre-K graduation… moments like this remind us just how far preemie families come.

📝 Our Preemie Journal was created to give caregivers a safe place to document the highs, lows, milestones, fears, and victories that come with the NICU journey and beyond. With thoughtful prompts and space for daily reflections, it helps families capture moments they never want to forget.

This journal is included in our complimentary Preemie Parent Care Packages, designed to support families during their NICU stay and transition home. And if you fill up your journal and need more pages, a digital version is available to download and print at home.

Care packages can be requested by parents, loved ones, or NICU staff, and are shipped directly to families.

Because every preemie story deserves to be remembered — from 1lb 8oz to graduation day. 🩵

What an incredible night 🩵

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the MyPreemie Fundraiser in support of the MyPreemie app — a trusted resource helping families navigate the practical and emotional journey of prematurity.

Hosted by board member Scott Cohen at the beautiful historic venue The Players in NYC, the evening brought together preemie parents, families, friends, and supporters for a night of connection, community, and fun.

Because of your generosity, we raised nearly $20,000 and funded 12 Preemie Care Packages for NICU families. Every dollar helps ensure that families continue to have access to vital support, resources, and encouragement when they need it most.

Thank you to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and everyone who made this special evening possible. Together, we are making a difference for preemie families everywhere.

🩵🕊 Meet Thayne and Colter, born at just 22 weeks.

At every hospital, their parents were given heartbreaking statistics about their boys’ chances. As first-time parents, they didn’t know what to do except keep believing.

Their NICU journey became one of both unimaginable grief and incredible hope. They spent just two precious days with Colter before he went to heaven, while Thayne continued to fight through every obstacle placed before him. Learning how to hold both loss and hope at the same time, changed their family forever.

After four months in the NICU, Thayne beat the odds; going home before his due date and without oxygen.

Today, at 2 years old, you’d never know he was born so prematurely. He runs around like a little tornado and already has plenty of stories and opinions to share.

To the NICU staff who cared for these boys and their family: thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and love leave a lasting impact on families long after they leave the hospital.

Thank you, Taylor, for sharing your precious boys with us! 💙

Today we honor and give thanks to our brave heroes and their families - we are grateful for you all! ❤️🤍💙

Today is (Preeclampsia is most often characterized by a rapid rise in blood pressure that can lead to seizure, stroke, or multiple organ failure).

❔DID YOU KNOW❔Preeclampsia rates are on the rise in the US and are a leading cause of maternal and infant illness and death. All women need to know the risk factors for developing high blood pressure during pregnancy.

‼️ Preeclampsia can occur in any pregnancy, so ALL moms should be aware of these symptoms:
1. Swelling of face (especially around eyes) or hands
2. Weight gain of more than 5 pounds in one week
3. Headache that won't go away even after taking medication
4. Vision impairment, such as seeing spots or flashing lights
5. Nausea or vomiting (especially suddenly after mid-pregnancy)
6. Belly/stomach pain in the upper right side
7. Difficulty breathing, gasping for air or panting

*It is important to note, that some women with preeclampsia do NOT experience any symptoms, so be sure to maintain your prenatal appointments with your doctor*

Postpartum preeclampsia can happen up to six weeks postpartum. It's important that women pay attention to specific postpartum symptoms, including severe headache, vision changes, swelling of the hands and face, and especially difficulty breathing.
