GASP Working to advance healthy air and environmental justice throughout the Greater-Birmingham area. Our vision is a healthy, sustainable and just Alabama.

Our mission is to advance healthy air and environmental justice in the Greater-Birmingham area through education, advocacy and organizing. We strive to reduce air pollution, to educate the public on the health risks associated with poor air quality and to encourage community leaders to serve as role models for clean air and clean energy development. Our Values:
🌤 We believe every Alabamian has the

right to breathe clean air.
🌤 We believe your health should be the first priority when considering policies that affect our community’s air quality.
🌤 We believe elected officials and regulators have a moral obligation to protect public health and act as stewards of our natural resources.
🌤 We believe that a person’s ZIP code, race, or socioeconomic status shouldn’t determine whether or not they can live a healthy life.

This week’s average Birmingham Metro air quality:
63 - MODERATE. 🟡

An AQI of 63 falls in the “Moderate” range (51-100).

That means air quality is generally acceptable, but some people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution may experience health effects.

At GASP, we believe people deserve access to information about the air they breathe. With the help of our AirKeepers, we’re building a community-powered picture of Birmingham’s air quality.

Follow along each week to see what the data tells us about our air.🌤️

This week’s Birmingham Metro air quality: 54 — MODERATE. 🟡

Today, we’re kicking off GASP’s weekly air quality reports, sharing the average AQI recorded across our Birmingham Metro community monitoring network.

An AQI of 54 falls in the “Moderate” range (51–100). That means air quality is generally acceptable, but some people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution may experience health effects.

At GASP, we believe people deserve access to information about the air they breathe. With the help of our AirKeepers (community members who host PurpleAir monitors on their property) we’re building a community-powered picture of Birmingham’s air quality.

Follow along each week to see what the data tells us about the air around us 🌤️

Call For Volunteers!

We need a few more last minute volunteers to help with our pop-up market for North Birmingham Homes, THIS Friday.

Our pop-up markets are our way to provide vital resources for people most impacted by pollution. To do this we need the help of some dedicated volunteers. If you are a registered GASP volunteer looking to stand up for our communities, please email [email protected] for volunteer shifts and more information.

Have time to volunteer with us in the future? Visit gaspgroup.org/ to register for one of our upcoming volunteer orientations! 🌤
