“I found a frog!!!!” In today’s transmission from Camp APAC’s Great Galaxy Getaway, we share tiny moments of magic. Discoveries found while splashing through puddles and flipping over logs.

A little rain can’t stop this kind of joy. And in between, BIG things happened. Canoe and banana boat rides. Jetting down a gigantic waterslide. Taking on the climbing wall and screaming like Tarzan while going down the zip line. Shooting a bow and arrow, and learning that even when you miss your target you took a shot…and sometimes you hit that thing dead center. 🎯 Doing the “Cupid Shuffle” with new friends. Making your bunk mate laugh so hard you both wind up on the floor. Shooting layups and 3 pointers, singing your heart out.

But you also found a frog, among other things, and other people you will never forget.

End transmission.

This , we’re celebrating TWO incredible members of the Children's Aid Society of AL team, and the combined 44 years of dedication they bring to the children, families, and communities we serve.

Debra Fredenberg marks 17 years with our Alabama Pre/Post Adoption Connections (APAC) program. Based in our Mobile, AL office, Debra serves adoptees and their families as an APAC counselor in southwest Alabama; offering the trauma-informed support and connections that help families thrive long after adoption day.

Ashley Adams celebrates 27 years with CAS. A true child-welfare veteran, Ashley has shaped our work in profound ways, formerly leading programs like EPIC and Family Partners, currently serving as our Clinical Director, and supporting adult adoptees and birth parents through Search and Contact services and more. Her fingerprints are on nearly every corner of this organization.
Neither Debra nor Ashley will be the first to ask for recognition, which is exactly why we’re giving it to them. The work they do is consistent, and life-changing. We are so grateful you chose CAS, and that you keep choosing us, year after year.

Thank you, Debra and Ashley! 💜💙💚

This is a special post, because this FREE training is happening TODAY. The internet your child uses every day is changing fast, and so are the dangers.
From smart home devices to gaming platforms, social media, and AI-generated deepfakes, predators are using every digital door available to target children.

Here’s what the data says:
* 83% of children ages 5–12 in the U.S. play video games at least one hour a week — gaming platforms are now one of the most common grooming environments.
* 65% of Gen Z across six countries, including the U.S., said they or their friends had been targeted in online sextortion schemes.
* From October 2021 to March 2023, the FBI and Homeland Security received over 13,000 reports of financial sextortion of minors — involving at least 12,600 victims, primarily boys — and led to at least 20 suicides.
* Technology-facilitated child abuse cases in the U.S. increased from 4,700 in 2023 to more than 67,000 in 2024.
* 1 in 17 teens reports being a target of AI-generated deepfake sexual imagery — fabricated from photos that are often publicly available on social media.

This is happening in homes across Alabama right now. Our Child Trafficking Solutions Project
(CTSP) team, is hosting a FREE online safety webinar on Wednesday, June 17th from 12:00–1:00PM CST.
Open to all parents and caregivers, no matter where you’re located.

What if one conversation, one shared post, one week of mentorship, or one donation helped change the course of a child’s life?

When we talk about child welfare, it’s easy to focus on statistics. But behind every number is a child who needs safety, stability, connection, and above all else…hope. Last week, we shared that our state ranked 42nd in the nation for child wellbeing, but better outcomes are possible.

When families receive the right support, more children can safely reunify with their parents. When adoptive families are educated and supported, more children find permanent homes. When teens and young adults in foster care have mentors and community support, they are better equipped to thrive as adults.

Creating these outcomes takes all of us.
This , we’re inviting you to think beyond the numbers and ask: “How can I help?”

Whether you choose to volunteer, advocate, foster, adopt, mentor, donate, or simply help spread awareness, your support helps create stronger families and brighter futures for Alabama’s children.

Join us in building a future where every child has the opportunity to grow up safe, supported, and connected.

This Family Reunification Month, Family Support Worker Jaliah Hasberry shares a powerful story of a family who faced significant challenges and language barriers, but chose to do the work necessary to create a safer, healthier future together.

Reunification is about helping families build the tools, confidence, and support systems they need to thrive long after services end.
Every successful reunification represents countless small victories that often happen behind the scenes:

* A parent not knowing where to begin looking for help. Then finding connection from an uncomfortable position.
* A child finding their voice through disconnection.
* A family learning to communicate differently.
* A home becoming more stable and united…one day at a time.

These are the stories worth celebrating.
🎥 Watch Jaliah’s story and help us celebrate the resilience of families across Alabama who are working every day toward healing, growth, and brighter tomorrows.

Many people think child labor is a problem from another era. The unfortunate reality is that It still happens today.

This World Day Against Child Labor, we’re sharing facts that remind us why protecting children requires ongoing awareness, advocacy, and action. While significant progress has been made, thousands of children across the United States and here in Alabama continue to be employed in violation of child labor laws, including in dangerous working conditions.

Child exploitation can take many forms. That’s why prevention, education, and community awareness matter. At Children’s Aid Society of Alabama, our Child Trafficking Solutions Project (CTSP) team works year-round to educate communities, child-welfare professionals, first responders, parents, and youth about exploitation, trafficking, and how to recognize warning signs before harm occurs.

Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, play, and enjoy being a kid.
