From bugs to ‘buognese’ to bookshelves. 🦗🍝📚

Back in 2015, Lee Cadesky (Lee Cadesky) came into the TFF community with C-fu FOODS and a wonderfully unconventional question: could insects become the basis for an entirely new category of food?

The answer involved a lot of food science, a cricket-and-mealworm pasta sauce (affectionately dubbed “bugognese”), a startup, an exit, a corporate gig… and a wild life spent questioning what food is, what it could be, and why we eat the things we do.

More than a decade after pitching live at TFF Lisbon, Lee has turned her curiosity about the future of food into a must-read book.

"Grub: Why We Eat, Why It Matters, and the Seven Forces That Shape Our Food” explores the biology, culture, history, and technology behind what ends up on our plates - and what might end up there next.

We love seeing all the places our TFFers go and the heights they reach. Because sometimes the “crazy” idea you start with becomes a company. Sometimes it changes your career.
And sometimes, it becomes a book. 💜

Congratulations, Lee!

We teamed up with GIGA Futures, Live Green USA, and Agritecture for — riffing on Netflix’s new (starring 🌱) and why getting your hands in the soil is the real revolution. 💪

A few things worth sitting with:

🏞️ The Missouri River — America’s longest — feeds ecosystems AND supplies ~80% of the concrete sand in the state. Rivers are nature and infrastructure.

💧 12 of the 17 most water-stressed countries on Earth are in the Middle East and North Africa. The climate-smart farming system coming out of the region is a template we’ll all need.

❤️‍🩹 Biophilic design isn’t decoration. Patients who view nature heal measurably faster. Workers near gardens perform better. Gardens are medicine and economics.

⚠️ Urban soil is usually contaminated. Bring in clean soil. Build raised beds. Watch for innovations like soil microtesting kits and plants engineered to reject heavy metals.

💚 Abundance is on the other side of showing up. Henry’s parents built 12 raised beds and two greenhouses in the Czech countryside from nothing, more food than they could eat.

The bottom line: just start. A seed. Some dirt. A south-facing window.

Culture is the lever. A Netflix series pulling kids into the mud shapes the next generation more than most white papers ever will.

Happy Earth Day, everyday! 🌍

HAPPY EARTH DAY! 🌎 🌱

Don't forget to join us today on Instagram Live () at 2 pm CET for our Earth Day reunion and meetup for TFF alums, friends, and fans.

We'll be joined by our Founder Christine R Gould and the superheroes from our community, Henry Gordon-Smith, Olivia English - and some special surprise appearances too! You know some great discussions, laughs, and (of course) dancing are in store!

We'll talk about the new Netflix series "This is a Gardening Show" () starring Zach Galifianakis that launches today. Described as an "oddball celebration of the food we eat," it sounds right up our alley!

For now, we invite you to take a moment to watch this incredible poem by . It's an ode to Mother Earth and the unique multispectral vibes that TFF brought to the world, which we shared on Earth Day 2022 when we launched our final TFF Global Challenge. 🤩 All the FEELS!

P.s. Watch this space - we'll be sharing more from TFF's memory box throughout the day. SEE YOU LATER 💚
