Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham is igniting passion for transformational change

Our Community's Foundation was founded in 1959 by people who believed that Birmingham needed a public endowment to meet its greatest needs and seize opportunities to make life better -- forever. We're still doing that and providing even more ways for you to join us as we bring people together to achieve measurable results and leverage gifts and bequests to create positive change.

Last month, we hosted our biannual Giving Together luncheon. we invite members of our community to learn about past grantees from one of our priority areas. Donors come together to help reach a fundraising goal. We're excited to announce that we hit our goal! The focus of this year's luncheon was on our Overcoming Persistent Poverty priority area, and we enjoyed hearing from representatives from Heidi’s Kids, Woodlawn Community Table, and Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank about their powerful work to support Alabamians.

Enjoy this video highlighting their work! If you'd like to learn more about Giving Together, contact Kendall Jones - [email protected].

We were thrilled to attend the ribbon cutting for the new access road and playground at today. What an honor to be part of this project.

Although our name is Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, we fund projects in five central Alabama counties. This is a huge win for Blount County - another step toward creating transformational change in our communities.

We're excited to announce recipients of funding through this year's spring grant cycle. Funding supports projects like construction of emergency shelters, wellness programs for people with Parkinson's (like the one pictured here), workforce development projects, and more. All funded projects fall within our five priority areas identified in our 10-year strategic plan: Thriving Communities, Regional Cooperation, Overcoming Persistent Poverty, Equity and Inclusion, and Economic Opportunity for All.

We've welcomed a new member to the team - meet Bettie Fletcher, our new Accounting Manager!

Bettie was born in Macau and grew up in San Francisco, CA. She and her husband, Justin, moved to Birmingham 5 years ago with two boys, Elliott (9) and Ezra (7). They like to travel as family and their favorite place to visit is Japan. During her spare time, she likes to bake and cook.

The organization Bettie chose to highlight is her former employer, Altamont School. The mission of the Altamont School is to improve the fabric of society by graduating compassionate, well-educated individuals capable of independent thinking and innovative ideas. To this end, the school attracts, nurtures, and challenges students whose commitment to truth, knowledge, and honor will prepare them not only for the most rigorous college programs, but also for productive lives.

Welcome to the team, Bettie!
