The Billings Police Department would like you to be aware that cash advance scammers have been in our area (MT & WY) over the past couple of weeks. The details are as follows:

Scenario: Suspect enters a bank and asks the clerk about the amount that he can pull out on a cash advance. He then asks for $5,000, but states this amount is over his limit, and proceeds to get on his cell phone, stating he is calling his credit card company. Suspect hands the clerk his driver’s license and a Wells Fargo Bank Visa Card. Suspect then hands the phone to the clerk, claiming that his credit card company is requesting to speak to them. A female voice on the line asks the clerk to verify the suspect’s (customer’s) name, driver’s license number, and credit card number, which the clerk does. The female then walks the clerk through the process of approving the transaction on their cash advance machine. The female gives the clerk a verification number, and the suspect is given his $5,000 in cash. The suspect leaves, and the bank soon discovers that the suspect and account information is not valid.

Suspect: M/African American 507-508/120 Dark, shaved close haircut, facial hair. Last seen wearing: Button-up shirt on one occasion, a gray long sleeve shirt, grey vest, and grey slacks on another occasion. Uses a black flip phone. Name on the driver’s license, which is out of CA, is Marcus Jermaine Williams DOB 09/07/89. Driver’s license number is C4870741. Uses a Wells Fargo Platinum Visa. None of this information appears to be valid.

The suspect has hit several banks in Cheyenne, Casper, and Evansville, WY and Billings, MT.

Hello all, just letting you know in an effort to keep educated as well as ahead of safety and community concerns Officer Nichols and I will be at the Northern Hotel on March 23, 2016 at 0930-1130 for a informal safety presentation and a Q & A session. We will be discussing things one might come across or issues that arise in the downtown area and how to best deal with them as well as addressing basic safety tactics, and answering questions. If you feel this would benefit you, or if you have questions, or just want to meet us please feel free to attend as the event is open to everyone.
Thanks,
Officer Matt Lennick

Greetings to everyone, I am writing to you all to let you know that the Police Department's summer bike program has begun. This will add some more Officers in the downtown area a few nights a week supplementing what Tony and I do during the day.

What I would like to hear back from you as either property owners, business owners, or patrons of our downtown are some areas of downtown where you think having an additional police presence would benefit. It is easy for us to stay close to the areas where we have a higher frequency of calls, but I don't want to neglect anywhere that needs our assistance. So please feel free to post an area where you would like to see us. I will pass on the feedback I get to the guys riding this summer and Tony and I will do our best to get to those areas as well.

Thanks for all of your help,
Officer Lennick
Downtown Resource Officer
