We’re celebrating Carrie Porter’s 5-year anniversary with CASA this month! 🎉❤️

Reflecting on the past year, Carrie shared what continues to ground her in this work and what she sees most clearly through her role at CASA:

“Every day, I am reminded that children, youth, and families do not need perfection, they need people who continue to show up. Whether it is a CASA advocate supporting a youth through setbacks, a parent working hard toward reunification, a foster parent providing stability, or a community partner stepping in to help, meaningful change happens through relationships.

What stands out to me most is the role that hope plays in those relationships. Hope is often what keeps people moving forward when progress feels slow, setbacks occur, or the path ahead seems uncertain. Sometimes the most important thing we can do is hold hope for a child, youth, or family until they are able to see it for themselves.” – Carrie

Carrie, thank you for the perspective, compassion, and steadiness you bring to CASA. Your focus on relationships and hope reflects the heart of this work, and we are grateful for the impact you make every day.

“I am a CASA because kids facing uncertainty deserve an adult who will remain constant.” – Nikki Avery

Nikki, that sense of steady presence is exactly what CASA is all about. 💙 Every child deserves someone who shows up, stays consistent, and stands beside them through uncertainty. We are so grateful for your commitment to being that person.

If you are ready to be that steady support for a child in foster care, join our Information Session happening TOMORROW. RSVP at: yellowstonecasa.org/information-sessions/

Reunification work often happens quietly, but it carries so much weight and hope. It looks like hard conversations, tough choices, small victories, and showing up again and again even when the road feels long. 💙

This month, we honor the parents working toward reunification, the children navigating uncertainty, and the caregivers, professionals, and advocates who walk alongside them every step of the way.

If you or someone you know is needing support, guidance, or connection to family and child wellness resources, help is available here in our community. RiverStone Health offers a wide range of family-centered services, including home visiting programs, pediatric care, and connection to additional community supports.

Congratulations, Libby Stone, for receiving the Advocate of the Year Award! 🥳

“Libby has been working on two different cases since June 2025, and she has been an amazing support for both cases. From building relationships with teens, to helping be a support to their placements, Libby leads with her heart and is a source of unconditional love for the children she serves. I have felt very privileged to get to see her stepping into a peer coordinator role, and look forward to walking with her as she supports advocates in this role.” – Mary Rose Swan

Congratulations, Terri Richards, for receiving the Peer Coordinator of the Year Award! 💙

“Terri is kind, compassionate, and eternally patient with all of her Advocates. She doesn't hesitate to take on brand new Advocates as well as seasoned folks and meets each Advocate where they are at. She has in- depth knowledge of how CASA works on an organizational level and embodies the mission. Terri has been a dedicated Peer Coordinator while at the same time working as an Advocate for her own cases. We have approached her specifically at times to take on cases that needed her special advocacy and she has always agreed, even while acting as a Peer Coordinator to several other Advocates. Terri has been a part of the Yellowstone CASA organization for nearly a decade and continues to demonstrate a deep commitment to both the children and the Advocates with whom she works. We are so fortunate to have her as part of our team.” - Jennifer Smith

Congratulations, Jan Shorthill, for receiving Rookie of the Year Award! ☀️

“From the beginning, Jan has gone above and beyond for this family. Both children have significant and complex needs, and Jan has devoted extraordinary time and care to understanding and supporting them. She has spent full days at the children’s school, built strong working relationships with their teachers, and earned the trust of both children—who regularly ask for her to visit. Jan has actively participated in education meetings, home visits, and discussions with CPS. She has also met with the parents multiple times to ensure she fully understands the family dynamic and the children’s needs. Jan’s background as a special education teacher has been invaluable. She even offered to work directly with the biological father to help him better understand and support the children. I cannot say enough positive things about Jan or how grateful I am for her partnership. This is a challenging case, and having a CASA who is so dedicated, compassionate, and hardworking makes an incredible difference for everyone involved." - Emilie Leonhart
