"Environmental justice is a continuation of the civil rights movement.

Freedom cannot exist where communities are forced to sacrifice their health so industries can profit."

"The Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act, which saw heavy industry lobbying again this year, never came up for a vote. 'There’s not enough votes to pass the bill,' Mr. Heastie said in early June. That’s odd, considering the bill has 77 Assembly co-sponsors in a chamber of 150 seats." -Times Union Editorial Board

Shout out to Hand Me Up Design and Jussara Lee and her many friends in NYC's Alphabet City for their fantastic Couture Trash Fashion Show last week.

Hand Me Up is an open-ended, collaborative movement that combines fashion, art, science, and activism to inform us of the impact overconsumption and waste have on the environment and our bodies.

Thank you also, Jussara, for sharing Beyond Plastics’ work with the audience—we appreciate your support!

Join us on Sunday, June 21, from 1:30 - 2:30 pm at Deep Water Literary Festival for a conversation about power, accountability, and the long fight to protect public health from corporate convenience masquerading as progress.

Drawing on Beyond Plastics Founder Judith Enck’s years in government and advocacy, and award-winning investigative journalist Andrea Bernstein’s unmatched eye for the intersection of money, influence, and public harm, the conversation will explore plastic not simply as waste, but as policy, politics, and culture: a crisis manufactured in plain sight. A timely exchange about environmental responsibility, institutional courage, and what it means to take on systems built to outlast outrage.

Head to deepwaterfestival.com/event/no-future-in-plastic for tickets (free, with donations appreciated by festival organizers)

"There was an avalanche of special interest opposition, and we were outgunned and outmaneuvered.

All we had were the facts on our side and hundreds of advocates all over the state contacting lawmakers.”

Despite repeated promises to the contrary, “chemical recycling” is doing virtually nothing to address the enormous — and rapidly growing — plastics crisis.

Instead, it’s setting communities up to deal with job losses, major environmental burdens, and wasted public subsidies.

Thank you to the incredible advocates who fought tenaciously for the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act in Albany.

You wrote letters to the editors.
Came to Albany for Advocacy Days.
Signed petitions.
Posted on social media.
Attended meetings.
Called, e-mailed, and met with your elected officials.

You did everything possible to pass PRRIA, and we wish the outcome had been different. While we are disappointed that it did not come up for a floor vote in the Legislature, we loved working with so many of you, and “We’ll be back.”
