We’re so excited to debut our 2026 Community Boating Center art 🎉

This year’s design, created by Bellingham-based illustrator and artist Jim Dixon, reflects a deep connection to both fine art and nonprofit storytelling. From exhibiting across the Pacific Northwest to debuting in NYC and now serving as an Artist in Residence in the U.K., Jim brings a rich creative perspective to this year’s piece. We’re honored to collaborate with him!

We were just delivered a fresh fleet of RS Quests! AKA the perfect boat to learn to sail or fall in love with sailing all over again.

Opening Day is a celebration of the Community Boating Center’s reopening for the 2026 summer season with a fun-packed day of activities for the whole family! Opening Day features more then just first rentals and classes - it’s your opportunity to dust off your skills and reconnect with the water and your community!

Event Highlights:

🏷️Boatyard Sale (12:30 PM – 5:30 PM): Browse the warehouse for deals plus a discounted clear-out of last season’s merch.

🌊Boatyard Tour (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Don’t know where to start? Join our boatyard tour to learn about all our watercraft and gain insider insight to your Community Boating Center!

🏄‍♂️Mega SUP Rides (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM): Test your sea legs with fun 15-minute group rides.

🪢Knot-Tying Station (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM): Dust off your skills—practice your cleat hitch & bowline and make friendship bracelets while you’re at it!

⛵️Dinghy Rigging Refresher (4:00 PM – 5:00 PM): Can’t quite remember the outhaul? Stop by for a quick, helpful tune-up.

Looking for the perfect afterschool adventure? Our Paddle Pals program is designed for elementary school explorers ready to build confidence, skills, and connection on the water. 
Over four fun-filled Thursday afternoons, students will: 🛶 Learn the basics of kayaking 💪 Practice self-rescue & water safety 🦀 Discover local marine critters 🗺️ Build skills for planning their own adventures

This 4-week program is all about hands-on learning, growing independence, and falling in love with Bellingham Bay 💙

In partnership with US Sailing, we’re excited to host this 3-day, 25-hour Adaptive Sailing Instructor Workshop focused on building more inclusive, accessible programs on the water.

In partnership with US Sailing, we’re excited to host this 3-day, 25-hour Adaptive Sailing Instructor Workshop focused on building more inclusive, accessible programs on the water.

This hands-on course covers:��
- Program & facility setup�
- Understanding disability populations�
- Breaking down barriers to participation�
- Safety + staff/volunteer training�
- Adapting boats and equipment�

Led by Chris Childers, who brings 12+ years of experience in inclusive sailing and outdoor education, this workshop is interactive, practical, and grounded in real-world teaching.�

Adaptive Sailing Resource Manual included� $500 per participant�

Whether you’re starting something new or strengthening an existing program, this is a chance to grow your skills and expand access to the water.�
