Here’s some photos from our Outboard workparty from a few days ago.

This Honda bf30 outboard had a blown cylinder head so our team was able to tear the engine down to the engine block and rebuild with a new cylinder head and gaskets.

Everything went together well and we hope to test run the engine sometime today.

It’s impressive the amount of work that got done in only a few hours

You’re invited! To our open-house at our Fairhaven shop Sunday, July 17th from 3-6pm

Bring friends and/or family to view our shop, see our projects and meet our board members & volunteers.

Inside that shop, we can do nearly everything to build a ship - wood working, engine rebuilding, machine work, welding/fabrication and even forge or cast our own metal projects.

Come on down and check out our playground. We are located between the Bellingham Cruise Terminal and the Community Boating Center.

See you there!

This is why you should flush your outboard after running in salt water.

Hard to see but the pick is pointed to a hole that is not supposed to be there. A hole was created between a cooling passage & exhaust passageway in a cylinder head.

The combination of extreme heat and the corrosive action of salt water ate this hole over a 12-15 year period of heavy use.

Symptom: any reduction of water flow in your outboard’s signal (exhaust) stream. Any reduction in flow should be investigated, usually it’s a impeller problem but if no root cause is obvious- keep investigating further downstream.

Always do your homework and take your time - this could easily been missed and thrown back into service
