Do you remember reading a book that inspired you to change the world? For 5-year-old Rosie, that book was Marjory Saves the Everglades.

Thank you, Branch Out attendees and donors. Your generosity at our annual fundraising celebration on September 11 raised more than $62,000 to create opportunities for tomorrow, planting seeds of inspiration for Whatcom County residents like Rosie!

Our friend and beloved WCLS board member, Cheryl Fear, passed away last month. Cheryl was a dynamic force for good. Her six years of service with WCLF and many years as a Friend of the Ferndale Library had a positive and far-reaching impact throughout the community. We cherish the time we had with Cheryl and will continue her legacy of learning.

“I have been a lifelong advocate for libraries and literacy. They are the last truly democratic institution in the United States. They are open to everyone without a fee or required membership. They only ask that you get a library card to take items home. There is no other place in the USA that offers limitless information with no charge.”

Thank you Cheryl, for your friendship and service.

You did it! Thank you to the 189 donors who raised more than $19,000 (and counting...) during Library Giving Day! Every gift matters and you surpassed the $15,000 goal, strengthening the community with your gifts.

Because of you, newborns will receive their first books, local kids in the Summer Reading program get to keep a "forever book", community members will enjoy free concerts across the county and people of all ages will attend the Open Book book fair on November 8.

Thank you for your support of key library programs and events that improve the lives of people of all ages across Whatcom County!
