Good morning, Wade King!

School starts for most grades on Monday (what!?), so I know what you're thinking: "What am I going to do with my kids after school?" I'm glad you asked.

Check out the PTO's fall After-School Enrichment options. These are third party programs that take place AT WADE KING, and offer your younglings a variety of fun activities to keep their little minds and bodies busy until you have the energy to face them and figure out what the heck is for dinner.

Mark your calendars: registration starts on Wade King's 6Crickets page on Sept. 14 at 7 a.m. (minus Girls on the Run and Honor Choir, which are available now.) Fall sessions are generally eight weeks long and begin the week of Sept. 28.

Offerings include AI game design, ceramics, Honor Choir, TikTok dance technique, Girls on the Run, mixed media art, chess club, yoga, martial arts, and Mythmakers. And scholarships are available upon request. The PTO website, www.wadekingpto.org, has all the relevant deets and links.

It's kind of chic to be on the PTO Board... 💅🏻

‣ Kate Boucher, Co-President, responsible for all things PTO, GASP, Scholastic Bookfair, and the Arts Festival
‣ Kara Van Leeuween, Co-President, PTO extrodinaire, responsible for the Scholastic Book Fair, Teacher & Staff Appreciation, Healthy Tech, and GASP
‣ Sara Greene, Technical Communications Officer (and Lost & Found Liaison), responsible for the PTO's website and social media; can locate anything in the PTO office; will find your child's lost items in her sleep (or nightmares)

‣ Angela Wahlroth, Special Events Coordinator, responsible for all the fun stuff, including the Back-to-School BBQ (JOIN US TOMORROW), Fall Festival, Field Day, family game nights, and fundraiser dine-outs

The Wade King PTO is excited to host our annual Back-to-School BBQ this Thursday, August 27, from 12:15 to 2 p.m., following Teacher Meet & Greets.

Join us on the blacktop/playground for hot dogs, lemonade, dessert, and sparkling conversation.

We will also have a PTO info table present so you can start the year in the know! Sign up for PTO emails (but not too many), learn about fall After-School Enrichment offerings, discuss our SUPER fun social media posts, grab a PTO meeting save-the-date bookmark, and compliment us on our brand new tablecloth.

The end of an era is upon us. Every year, Wade King mom, Stacy Schaplow, takes the time to make our school a more beautiful place, and this is her final year:

"What a PRIVILEGE it has been to be the face behind the Wade King pots for five years! Making the front of Wade King a little brighter every new start to the year has become a tradition I’ll remember forever. Bringing a little smile to nervous students on their first day, eager and excited staff as they start the new year and new and old families to Wade King has been such a treat. They always say, 'leave the space a little brighter than what it was before you left.'”

Calling all incoming Promise-K and Kinder families: welcome to the Wolf Pack!

Join us THIS Friday, August 21, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Wade King playground for an opportunity to meet other kinder families and chat with PTO board members before the school year officially kicks off. Siblings are welcome. We can't wait to see you there and welcome you to the Wade King community.

I'm taking a break from all this summer fun, to share an important message!

Bellingham Alliance for Healthy Tech (BAHT) is working to encourage Bellingham Public Schools update their EdTech policies and procedures. While parents and caregivers recognize that technology can play a role in education, many feel that current levels of screen exposure, particularly for young children, are developmentally inappropriate, insufficiently transparent, and often inconsistent with best practices in child development, learning science, and data privacy. Families deserve meaningful choice, clear consent, and policies that prioritize students’ well-being over convenience or default digital use.

Field Day is happening THIS WEDNESDAY. Students are encouraged to wear their Move-A-Thon T-shirts.

12:15 to 1:15 p.m.: 3rd - 5th graders
1:20 to 2:20 p.m.: Promise-K - 2nd graders

Activities will include the sack race, the hula hoop partner race, tug of war, the water race, an obstacle course, a dunk tank, bubbles, and free popsicles. Parents welcome!
