YWCA Bellingham YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women. Since 1907, YWCA Bellingham has offered safe housing for women.

Our emergency housing, permanent supportive housing, and senior housing programs are available for unaccompanied adult women in Whatcom County, and are supported through a combination of resident program fees, grants from public and private sources, and other community contributions. Women come to us for many different reasons, but the goal for each is the same: YWCA Bellingham aims to give women

a safe, supportive place to stay while connecting them with the appropriate resources they need to ultimately become self-supporting. The YWCA Larrabee Residence Program provides housing for 41 women in our historic landmark building at Forest and Maple Streets in Bellingham.

And at YWCA Bellingham, we believe defending that right means creating sustainable ways to support women and families in our community.

When you volunteer at Y’s Buys Thrift Boutique, you’re doing more than sorting clothes, organizing racks, or helping customers. You’re helping support a thrift store whose proceeds fund YWCA Bellingham efforts while also giving clothing a second life through sustainable fashion.

We need volunteers to help keep Y’s Buys running and make that mission possible. Whether you can give a few hours a week or simply want to get involved in your community, your time makes a difference.

Today, we remember the people and families whose lives have been affected by overdose, and we recognize the importance of compassion, education, and community support.

With the help of Paramedic O’Neill and Intense Case Manager Nick, we were able to learn about Narcan and the benefits of keeping some on hand.

Overdose can happen to anyone and knowing how to respond can make the difference between life and death. Naloxone (Narcan) is a safe, lifesaving medication that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose and restore breathing.

Carrying Narcan is a simple way to be prepared to help someone in an emergency. You don't have to know someone's history, understand substance use, or be a medical professional to carry it. You simply have to be willing to help.

One of the biggest takeaways from today’s training came from Paramedic O’Neill: having Narcan training is one thing, but keeping Narcan readily available is another. Keep it within arm’s reach and make sure you always know where it is. If an emergency happens, take a deep breath and remember your training.

And remember: you can always call 911. Dispatchers can walk you through how to administer Narcan safely while help is on the way.

Be prepared. Know where your Narcan is. Your training could help save a life.

Reducing stigma starts with recognizing that substance use and overdose are public health issues and are not reasons to judge or turn away from our neighbors.

This Overdose Awareness Day, let's remember those we've lost, support those who are still here, and make sure more people know how to respond when a life may be at risk.

Today is Women’s Equality Day. August 26 marks the anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which recognized women’s right to vote in the United States. But the fight for equality didn’t end there and it didn’t begin with the 19th Amendment, either.

For generations, women have worked to have their voices heard, their rights recognized, and their lives valued equally.

At YWCA Bellingham, eliminating racism and empowering women means continuing that work today.

It means creating safe housing. Supporting women and families. Expanding opportunities. Building leadership. And helping ensure that the people most affected by decisions have a voice in shaping them.

And that brings us to the next important date:

National Voter Registration Day is September 15.

As we recognize how far women have come, we can also look ahead to the work that remains and make sure our community is ready to participate.

Your voice matters. Your experiences matter. Your vote matters.

This Women’s Equality Day, let’s celebrate the women who fought to make their voices heard—and continue building a community where every woman has the opportunity to use hers.

What an incredible day celebrating what collaboration can accomplish!

We were honored to officially cut the ribbon on the new solar installations at two YWCA Bellingham buildings alongside our amazing partners at Puget Sound Energy, Silfab Solar, and EcoTech Solar.

The celebration was filled with smiling neighbors, residents, community partners, music, bubbles, sidewalk chalk for the kids, delicious food, and sweet treats from Sugar Shack—making it a day to remember for everyone who joined us.

The impact of this project is already making a difference. At one of our apartment buildings, we've seen our electric bill reduced by nearly 50%. Those savings help us direct more resources where they matter most: supporting women and families in our community.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this project, and this celebration, possible! Together, we're building a more sustainable future while creating lasting impact for the people we serve. 🧡

BELLINGHAM PRIDE 2026 was nothing short of a success!

The energy at this parade was off the charts, and it was a day for YWCA Bellingham and Y's Buys to remember forever. Our CEO, Alle, showed up with her daughter and marched alongside our YWCA crew, proud and loud!

As I reflect on this powerful day, I think about the LGBTQ+ community and everything they're facing. Across our country, many LGBTQ+ individuals continue to face discrimination, harassment, barriers to healthcare, bullying, and uncertainty about their safety. While Pride is a celebration of love and acceptance, it's also a reminder that the work is far from over. We must stand together and continue creating communities where everyone is safe to be exactly who they are.

Everyone reading this today, please remember:
YOU ARE LOVED.
YOU MATTER.
THIS PLACE IS BETTER WITH YOU IN IT.
YOU ARE COMMUNITY.
