🍉 Looking for a meaningful way to give back this summer? We need your help! 🍉

We are looking for temporary summer volunteers to help us pack YMCA lunches for campers. Everything is prepped and ready to go - we just need friendly hands to help bag them up! 🛍

This is the perfect opportunity for seasonal residents who want to connect with the community, or students looking to lock in some summer community service hours.

📅 Days: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (Our Tuesday slots are already full! 🎉)

⏰ Time: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

⏳ Duration: Starting now through August 14th

Let’s make sure these campers have a great summer!

Ever looked at a container of yogurt or a pack of chicken, noticed it was one day past the date on the label, and thrown it straight into the trash? 🗑️

⚠️You might be tossing perfectly good food! ⚠️

Here is a major insider secret: with the exception of infant formula, these dates are NOT regulated by the government, and they are NOT safety dates. Manufacturers place them on packaging simply to estimate when the product will be at its peak quality and flavor. 😋

To save you money and reduce food waste, here is a quick cheat sheet on what those labels actually mean:

📅 "Best if Used By / Before": This is all about flavor and quality. It’s a guarantee from the manufacturer of when the food will taste its absolute best, not a purchase or safety deadline.

🏪 "Sell-By": This one isn't even meant for you! It tells the grocery store how long to display the item for inventory management. It is perfectly safe to buy and eat food past this date.

🥇 "Use-By": This is the last date the manufacturer recommends using the product while it's still at peak quality. Again, it's not a safety date (unless it's on infant formula, which should always be strictly followed! 🍼).

❄️ "Freeze-By": This tells you when you should get the product into the freezer to lock in that peak quality before it starts to degrade.

❓ So, how do we handle food? ❓
We strictly follow official food-safety guidelines, not marketing dates! Safe handling, proper refrigeration temperatures , and looking for actual signs of spoilage are what keep your kitchen safe.

Time for another ! This week we are still on the hunt for toiletries and feminine products, but we're also in need of peanut butter, canned protein (tuna, chicken, chili, etc), and meal helpers!

Can you help us stock our shelves? No matter if it's a whole case or just a single jar of peanut butter, every little bit helps our neighbors in need.

Donations can be dropped off between 8am-2:30pm Monday-Friday.

Tuesday June 9th!!! Come play in the dirt with our friends at Waldo County Bounty

We'll be at the County Garden again this Tuesday! Please come by and help us build upon all the amazing 💪🌱🔥 things we accomplished last week.

When: Tuesday, June 9th, 9-12 (rain or shine)
What to bring: Water, sunscreen/hat, closed toed shoes, hand trowel, and a friend!
Where: 685 Swan Lake Ave, Swanville (Emergency Management Agency) is a good landmark for GPS, if you are using it. There's ample parking, but we will be working behind the EMA office.
