❤️🤍💙 Celebrating 250 years of Independence!

This morning, our Waldo County YMCA Active Older Adults (ages 50 & better) gathered to honor our nation’s milestone anniversary.

Together, we crafted a beautiful, one-of-a-kind red, white, and blue folded paper star wall hanging!

⭐A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteer, Jane McLean, for leading this activity. Jane has led many incredible programs at the Y, and today was no exception. We always have the best time with her!

Today we hosted our monthly Senior Luncheon for folks ages 60 & better. Lunch was Salisbury Meatballs, noodles, green beans, and a biscuit. Participants brought desserts to share.

Our Sustaining Sponsors include Viking Lumber, Robbins Lumber, First National Bank, Camden National Bank and Ridge Maine. What a wonderful and supportive community we have, thank you all for jumping in and having impact. TRIAD was on hand to hand out important information for Seniors.

The End of the Hall Gang swung into action early, preparing food and tables for participants. WCY Staff, Bank of America, and community volunteers stepped into their role of helping to serve lunch, socializing, and cleaning up.

Our WCY Preschoolers entertained the group with songs of Summer! What a great multigenerational connection. The preschoolers are happy to see the luncheon participants and we are happy to see them. Their singing and smiles warm the hearts of all in attendance!

These luncheons provide healthy meals and sustained connections for Seniors in our community. Our YMCA furthers our cause of social responsibility by providing these valuable moments of connection to the seniors in our community. As they walk into our Y and sit together, family style, to eat their lunch their joy is evident by their beautiful smiles they share with us.

Embrace the small actions to make someone’s day – smile, start a conversation, maintain a sense of humor, pay a heartfelt compliment and when you can… offer up a hug!

Group Swim Lesson Member Registration starts TODAY!

Nurturing Skills & Building Confidence in the Water: No matter where you are in your swimming journey, the YMCA has a program designed for you. From water exploration for little ones to skill refinement for teens and adults, our lessons focus on safety, confidence, and lifelong skills in the water.

Swim Lessons for All Ages: Swim lessons are grouped by age to help you find the right starting point. Each stage builds safety, confidence, and technique. The most important thing is placing your swimmer where they will be safe, confident, and challenged appropriately. If the first class shows that they need a different stage, our aquatics staff may recommend a move, so they get the best experience.

Today, we honor Andrew Cross and his heroic actions at the Robbins Lumber Mill. As we pay our final tributes, we reflect on a lifetime defined by unselfish kindness, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to others.

Even as a young man working at the Waldo County YMCA, Andrew stood out for his incredible work ethic and readiness to help. It brings our community immense pride to see how those same noble qualities guided his adult life.

Our deepest gratitude goes out to injured first responders, all community emergency personnel, family and caregivers, and our hearts remain entirely with Andrew’s family on this difficult day.
