Station Manager Vic -- along with Matt at WERU and Rachel from WRFR -- has been involved in a project to connect the community radio stations of Maine in mutual support. Lots of details in this recent article from the PenBay Pilot. --

In 2024, WRFR-LP Rockland programmer and board member Rachel Albury ran into WERU East Orland station manager Matt Murphy at the Common Ground Fair. Rachel and Matt chatted about the challenges of running a community radio station and how important community-run media is, according to a Jan. 27 news...

The show features essays on Native American issues and history, with music by native singer-songwriters. "New England no more", says Groden. "It's New Eagle Land now."

In my travels, I had the pleasure of meeting the host/producer of the nostalgia program 45-RPM: Music of the 40's and 50's (Fridays at 5pm on Belfast Community Radio). On air he goes by Sam Waldron, but in real life his name is Richard Buck of West Seattle.

His commitment to radio is deep and lifelong. His father owned a small station in Port Angeles, Washington many decades ago. In elementary school Richard impressed his teacher by reading the AP news wire to this classmates. He had a career writing for The Seattle Times.

Many thanks to Rich's wife Susan. Not only did she drive me to and from the ferry landing, but she provided lunch and took this picture.

Give 45-RPM a listen to hear how a real radio ace does the work. The show runs coast to coast because it is on three Seattle community stations and also bounds joyfully out of your radio in Belfast, Maine.

Hello from Union Station in Chicago! Vic is on the way to the Grassroots Radio Convention in Spokane, Washington. But the (radio) show must go on. So the Wednesday and Thursday editions of "The String Band Lunch" get created at a table in the food court. Thanks to Moe from Idaho for the picture.

In late June the band called Mr Sun appeared at the Clifford Theater in Unity. The recording of that concert will be on Belfast Community Radio this Sunday (August 17) from 6-8pm, on "Live & Local". They play jazz on bluegrass instruments, a format sometimes called Dawg Music. Members (left to right) Grant Gordy (guitar), Aidan O'Donnell (bass), Darol Anger (fiddle), Joe K. Walsh (mandolin & vocals).

Radio Karaoke, that's what we call it when random people take over the station and make like DJ's for an hour. Today three friends -- David, Rosey and Casey -- picked the music and talked on the air. They were joined by young Noem at the end: he had a knock-knock joke. If you'd like to take a turn in the studio on Radio Karaoke, just get in touch.
