Q: Why did TIE choose to become a nonprofit rather than a for-profit company?

A: Forrest Broman, our founder, recognized that schools might see the request to pay to place ads in the TIE newspaper as a way for him to profit personally, which was far from his reason for starting TIE, so he made it a nonprofit with a focus on supporting the international education community.

Q: What does OSAC stand for, and why does TIE operate under it?

A: OSAC stands for Overseas Schools Assistance Corporation. It is a non-profit with a deliberately broad mandate to support international education.

The vision was that there would be many ways to achieve the mission, and under this same non-profit, we have created the Principals' Training Center - PTC, Counselors Training Center (CTC), Teacher Leader Institute (TLI), English as an Additional Language Training Center (EAL), and Governance Training Center (GTC). We have also started and run a school in Haiti, and created the Growth and Appraisal Tool (G*T), the first standards- and evidence-based tool of its kind.
