A little shellfish scavenger hunt across the cape.
Find all 37 signs…….
Thank you for helping to educate everybody on aquaculture.
🦪 Have you spotted one yet?
If you’ve been exploring Cape Cod’s beaches, town landings, or boat ramps this summer, you may have come across one of 37 new shellfish aquaculture signs installed across the Cape.
Created through a collaboration between Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, WHOI Sea Grant, local shellfish growers, town staff, and regional partners, the signs help answer some common questions about the oyster farms you see along our shoreline:
🦪 What are those cages?
🌊 Why can I see them at low tide?
🚶 Can I walk near or through a shellfish farm?
👀 What exactly am I looking at?
The signs explain how shellfish aquaculture works, what different types of farming gear look like, and how to safely enjoy the shoreline around active farms. There’s even an “I Spy” activity for kids and curious grownups.
📍 There are 37 signs across 11 Cape Cod towns. How many can you find this summer?
