Yesterday, the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce kicked off summer with their Quahog Day celebration at Shipwrecked Falmouth.

Both our Executive Director Michael White and Board President Eugene Curry were there. The pair also have two pivotal roles in the very funny Chamber video promoting this year’s Quahog Day where the region’s mascot, Doug the Quahog, is responsible for predicting what summer has in store for the Cape.

Yesterday, Doug predicted 72 beach days for summer 2026! We’re not sure the technology behind Doug’s prediction!

Thirty years ago, the Technology Council incorporated. While we host events, hold talks focused on the importance of technology to our region (and our lives), advocate for technology-driven solutions, and promote tech and its understanding to Cape Cod, the Islands, and Southeastern Massachusetts, we're much more than that.

As our Executive Director Michael White said at our Annual Meeting last night at Alberto's Ristorante, "At its best, the Technology Council is a community. It is people showing up for one another. It is people sharing ideas, opening doors, offering help, and sometimes simply being present when it matters. That is one of our greatest strengths and as we think about the next chapter of the Cape Cod Technology Council, I believe that a sense of community has to be at the center of it."

We're grateful to all who showed up to last night's meeting, especially Ben Pring for giving us insight into AI and how it (coupled with humanity) will shape our future as a community.

A special thanks to OpenCape Corporation, Cape Cod 5, Cape Light Compact, and East West Event Services for their ongoing support which made last night's Annual Meeting possible.

One week from today, we'll be holding our Annual Meeting at Alberto's Ristorante, 5-8 pm, where author, futurist, digital strategist, and professional thought leader Ben Pring will be delivering the keynote speech.

The title of his speech, "The Future of AI, More or Less," will look at how some people will use AI to do more, some to do less. "This is sort of the crucial crossroads for people to use this to do more," he shared with us.

The impact of AI on all sectors cannot be understated.

This morning, we heard from Cape Cod 5 Chief Information Security Officer Elizabeth Hammann on the potential threats AI poses to financial institutions and how the technology can be employed to improve the safety and security of banks.

As Hammann said during her talk, it is no longer a banking issue. It is no longer a technology issue. It is a national cybersecurity issue.

We're grateful to Cape Cod 5 for hosting us this morning, and to Hammann for sharing how the bank is at the forefront of cybersecurity defenses.

Fraud Prevention Tip: Did you receive an email from your “CEO” requesting an urgent wire transfer? These messages look like they’re from a trusted sender to trick victims into transferring money or revealing sensitive information.

🚩 Recognize the red flags such as urgent requests, unfamiliar bank details or slightly altered email addresses. And always verify any payment requests in person or by phone to make sure it is legitimate.
