✨☕🌱 Black History Month in action. Community in motion. 🌱☕✨

This month, and are working hand in hand to pour love back into our neighborhood.

Black Acres has dedicated a portion of proceeds from their Black History Month Blend directly to supporting our work at the farm and we could not be more grateful. 🙏🏾

At Whitelock Community Farm, we are committed to:

🥕 Providing free, fresh produce to our community
🧊 Stocking a community fridge with free food and prepared meals
🌻 Offering education and land stewardship opportunities
🌍 Reclaiming ancestral knowledge and building systems rooted in food justice

And here’s where it gets even more beautiful…

The funds raised will directly support our community composting program ♻️

Community members and local businesses drop off food scraps, and we transform them into nutrient-rich soil; which goes right back into growing food for our community, at no cost.

This year, we’re expanding by:

🪣 Providing even more compost buckets to 100 new households
👩🏾‍🌾 Hiring support to help process food scraps
☕ Partnering with Black Acres to use their coffee chaff as a carbon-rich compost source

Coffee fueling compost. Compost fueling food. Food fueling community. Full circle. 🔁

Every bag purchased is an investment in local land, local people, and collective liberation.

🌱 GIVING TUESDAY IS HERE!

And we’re kicking off our Nourish Whitelock campaign to grow 10,000 pounds of free food in 2026 — right here in Reservoir Hill! 🌾💚

This year, we grew over 3,000 pounds of produce for free, and next year we’re expanding to the South Lot so we can triple that impact. More greens, more tomatoes, more herbs, more nourishment for our neighbors. ✨

But to make it happen, we need you.

📢 PSA: Our Wednesday, November 26th food distribution WILL proceed as usual, though our offices will be closed Wednesday-Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. We want to express our immense gratitude to the operations team members and volunteers who make this possible.

Let’s have a conversation…For the past 6 months, through the sponsorship of Maryland State Arts Council, in partnership with Afro Latina muralist, Jaz Erenberg, Whitelock Community Farm has been working to engage the community around a mural that will be coming to the farm in Spring 2026.

We are getting a 40 foot shipping container on our site that will allow us to expand production and be a home for our office as apart of our Nourish Whitelock initiative.

To continuing adding to the beauty of Whitelock as a community, we’ve been gathering the voices, opinions, and ideas of our neighbors and folks who live, play, and work here.

After interviewing and surveying dozens of residents, Jaz birthed two (2) mural designs based on that feedback.

At Whitelock, we believe that the heart of our work beats strongest when we listen to the voices of our community. Together, we grow, learn, and build a space rooted in care, collaboration, and shared purpose. We’re deeply grateful to the Whitelock community for being an unwavering source of strength and inspiration as we continue our mission to nourish, uplift, and empower together.

So many big feels as we bring the 2025 season to rest. The biggest of all is complete gratitude. Thank you for joining us in one of the most fulfilling years the farm has experienced.

Did you know that 600 Baltimore City youth spent close to 1300 hours volunteering with us this year?

That we’ve grown and distributed 2000 pounds of food for FREE?

We’ve met so many new friends that have turned into family.

Now join us on Sunday, November 9th from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. for a day of gratitude. Our end of the year harvest & annual garlic planting!

There will be:

-Free Yoga 12:30 - 1:30 w/Afia

-Community Mural Voting & Design Reveal 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. w/Jaz the Muralist

- Garlic Planting & Workshop w/Sache

-Farm prep & volunteering 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.

There will be snacks & beverages. Come celebrate a wonderful year with us!

Tomorrow is our last Wednesday Yoga w/Afia! Due to not having lights on the farm, yoga will be taking place at St. Francis Neighborhood Center.

Grab your mat and a neighbor and join us as we lean deeper into this season of slowing down.

Hey Farmily!

We’ve been watching the weather this weekend and have decided to move our yoga class indoors!

Thanks to our partnership with St. Francis Neighborhood Center will be meeting there Sunday morning for restorative yoga with Afia Padonu!

Due to this change, will begin promptly at 11 a.m.

Come enjoy a cup of herbal tea, community, and rest this Sunday!

Meets us at 2405 Linden Avenue, just 1 block north of the farm.

Yoga is back at Whitelock!

As the temps begin to cool and the season starts to change, we are making room for slowing down and being intentional with our time.

Join us for yoga on the South Lot for 6 mindfulness sessions led by Afia Padonu!

Afia Padonu- Yoga Instructor, Runner, Founder & President of Soles for Souls, Run Coach & Community Liaison. Afia has been a yoga instructor since 2017 with a background in Hatha, Restorative & Vinyasa teaching modality leading with a focus on encouraging everyBODY to know that with connecting breath to movement, healing remains possible. Afia teaches with a beginner friendly approach including many variations for poses and cueing for all levels to feel welcome. Afia currently teaches with RestEasyBby and at Charm City Run Timonium monthly and loves to teach for niche groups and disadvantaged communities. This Saturday 9/27, we are dedicating our volunteer hours to ! If you don’t know, Farmer Clayton has been an anchoring partner in the restoration of Whitelock Community Farm. He has dedicated time, energy, and resources to help us get our compost program restarted and teaching our community how to work together to improve the farm’s infrastructure.

This Saturday, we are pouring back and taking our hands to help Farmer Clayton.

Join us for a sponsored volunteer day with food, community, and stewardship!!!

Thanks to the Mid-Atlantic Black Farmers Caucus sponsoring this field day, attendees will receive lunch and could opt for travel reimbursement.
