The glass of Blaine's life was always overflowing with joy and energy. Her relentlessly positive outlook inspired her family, friends, teammates and coaches.

By connecting a diverse community of young women athletes through our transformative leadership programming, we are empowering the next generation of women to become authentic, resilient and confident leaders. Live Like Blaine honors Blaine Steinberg, an accomplished athlete, student, and leader who passed away suddenly in March 2014, just two weeks before her 21st birthday. We hope to share Blain

e's spirit with young female athletes and leaders so that they will see life as a series of opportunities rather than hurdles. It is our goal to support projects that will encourage these women to lead by example with Blaine's combination of grace and determination.

🎉 We just kicked off our FIRST Leadership Academy Reunion last Wednesday! It was a night filled with connection, kickball, and amazing conversations. 🌟 We’re committed to empowering girls to be part of the Live Like Blaine network, ensuring every alum reaps the benefits! We wrapped up the evening at the Blaine Fitness Center, honoring Blaine’s legacy at Penn Charter and the mark left on each leadership academy girl.

Live Like Blaine has served young women for over 11 years now. However, we want to expand our impact beyond Leadership Academy to provide all of our alumnae with the best support possible, and strengthen our alumnae network. Join us in welcoming Marina to the team! 🎉

As a world traveler, former Division I rower at Drexel University, and coach with Villanova Women’s Rowing 🚣‍♀️, she’s experienced firsthand how sports shape confidence, resilience, and leadership. Today, she brings that same philosophy to her work as a movement coach and leadership facilitator, creating spaces where others feel curious, supported, and empowered to grow.

She’s excited to help the next generation of young women lead with authenticity, courage, and heart as she serves as the Leadership Academy Co-facilitator and as the Program lead for our Leaders Are Made sessions at Harlem Lacrosse!

Our second summer intern is Brenna Knox. Brenna is a member of the Leadership Academy class of ’25. This year, she served as one of our Leadership Academy interns. This summer, she will be working alongside Executive Director Karen Moustafellos and intern Maddie Shoemaker in our office. One fun fact about Brenna is that she participates in her school’s handbell and orchestra ensembles! We are excited to have her continue with the team!

We are excited to welcome back Maddie Shoemaker to Live Like Blaine. Maddie was a part of our leadership academy class of 2021! This summer, she will be working alongside Executive Director Karen Moustafellos as one of our summer interns. One fun fact about Maddie is that when she’s not on the lacrosse field, she loves to ski! We are excited to have Maddie on the team!

Last Sunday, the 2025-2026 girls were officially inducted into the Live Like Blaine alum network. Over the past nine months, this group of girls has exceeded all expectations and left an incredible mark on the organization. We are eager to see what they accomplish beyond Live Like Blaine!

CLASS OF 2029…
The Live Like Blaine Leadership Academy offers rising sophomores a chance to enhance leadership and interpersonal skills through a comprehensive toolkit that fosters self-awareness, confidence, teamwork, and more. This personal growth journey takes place within a diverse community of enthusiastic, skilled peers from local high schools. Students can meet female leaders in sports and business, attend an overnight retreat, and participate in community service.
The selective program will accept 24 girls from Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs in 1 of 2 cohorts (48 total). Selected students will meet monthly for a 2-hour in-person session to learn leadership skills to improve performance on and off the field and in their communities. There will also be a speaker series with local female leaders, and the program is free.
Please share the registration link with any interested students. A flyer with a QR code linked to the application is attached. The application deadline is May 15, 2026, but rolling admissions encourage early applications.
