The glass of Blaine's life was always overflowing with joy and energy. Her relentlessly positive outlook inspired her family, friends, teammates and coaches.

By connecting a diverse community of young women athletes through our transformative leadership programming, we are empowering the next generation of women to become authentic, resilient and confident leaders. Live Like Blaine honors Blaine Steinberg, an accomplished athlete, student, and leader who passed away suddenly in March 2014, just two weeks before her 21st birthday. We hope to share Blaine's spirit with young female athletes and leaders so that they will see life as a series of opportunities rather than hurdles. It is our goal to support projects that will encourage these women to lead by example with Blaine's combination of grace and determination.

SESSION 3!

This Sunday the girls had their last session focused on the “I” in team before they begin more group-focused content.

They learned with a snowflake activity where they all received the same directions, yet their snowflakes were unique. From this, they learned that people interpret information differently, which can lead to different outcomes.

For active 2, they each had a partner and a balloon, and the goal was to knock the other group’s balloon out. They were later given personality traits to embody such as “take risks” and “play it safe” to show the different qualities that people bring to their work.

The session ended with a self reflection worksheet based on their values.

At Sunday’s Leadership Academy session, we welcomed Gina Lizzo, former Division I golfer at La Salle University and the youngest Managing Editor in the history of Main Line Today and The Hunt Magazine.

Gina shared her journey from athletics to marketing to journalism, reminding our student-athletes that your path doesn’t have to be linear. It’s okay to change direction, discover new interests, and grow into opportunities you never expected.

One of our favorite stories? An opportunity to write about golf came through the mother of a former volleyball teammate, years after they’d first connected. A reminder that the relationships we build through sports can open doors long after the game ends.

Her message to our girls:
✨ Work hard and take initiative.
✨ Build genuine relationships and stay connected to your community.
✨ Be open to change. You don’t need to know exactly where you’re headed to keep moving forward.

Gina’s story was also an important reminder to our students that age doesn’t limit their potential or what they’re capable of achieving.

Big conversations at Sunday’s Leadership Academy session! 💛

This month was all about character: who you are when it’s hard and no one is watching. Our girls looked at real leaders like Simone Biles and Katherine Johnson, talked about the difference between the skills we practice and the character we build, and dug into the values underneath it all.

Then each girl named her own top three values and what it looks like to live them every day.

Meet one of our two-year-round interns, Stella! Stella is a junior at Penn Crest, where she runs track and plays tennis. She is currently learning how to play the piano. Welcome aboard, Stella; we’re happy to have you! 🥳

We are excited to introduce one of our two new year-round interns Olivia! Olivia is a junior at Harriton High School, runs track, and has a 3.5-year-long active Duolingo streak! We are excited to have her on the team! 🥳

We had our first speaker of this year’s speaker series. Senior Director of Social Media at Sony Music Publishing and Blaine’s friend, Cortney Riles! She gave the girls insight into the path to a successful career. As well as the importance of adapting to new possibilities.

Cortney originally spoke to a group of Leadership Academy girls two years ago, which happened to be the class that team member Brenna Knox was part of. Brenna is a senior in high school and has a career interest in sports broadcasting and journalism, so we allowed her to interview our speakers for the year and Cortney was her first interview of the year.

We love seeing full-circle moments happen because of Live Like Blaine and want to continue allowing for connections in the Live Like Blaine network to happen. To find out more about how you can become a part of the network, reach out to us!

This Sunday, we had our first Leadership Academy session of the year 🥳!! Our theme for this session was noticing and applying self-awareness to understand yourself better, how you show up in relationships, and how you can use that awareness to build stronger, more meaningful connections.
The girl’s partook in two different activities to help work on these skills we are excited for the great year that is to come! 🤗
