About Kick-It Powered by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation:
Kick-It, formerly a program of Flashes of Hope, is a national charitable athletic campaign to raise money for much needed childhood cancer research. Kick-It partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) in 2017 in order to further the vision of a 10-year-old boy with cancer who wanted to help other kids like him. This partnership

emerged from their similar beginnings as both charities were founded by children battling cancer. About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation:
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $140 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 690 pediatric cancer research projects nationally. At The every year, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) recognizes its dedicated supporters who champion our cause by presenting recipients with the Alex Scott Crystal Cup Award. At the event tonight, ALSF is proud to award the Crystal Cup Award to Jamie and Charlene Kohl of Kohl's Kicking Camps.

On and off the field, Jamie and Charlene Kohl know the name of the game when it comes to fighting childhood cancer: passion and contribution. So, naturally, when the partnership in 2014 formed between their professional athletic camps and Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) it felt like a real win-win. Jamie Kohl is founder and director of Kohl’s Kicking Camps, the premier training program for football kickers, punters and long snappers across the U.S.

His wife, Charlene, helps him run these camps every year. Together, the pair not only encourage young athletes to improve their skills, but also to make an impact with their platform. The Kick-It Champions program started when one camper – a high school kicker and cancer survivor – brought his idea to fundraise for childhood cancer research through kicking to the camp. The idea was simple: pledge a dollar amount for each point a kicker makes in games.

Today, the Kohls put an emphasis on the program at the camp’s introduction, presenting it as an opportunity for kickers to use their passion for the sport to contribute to a good cause. In the last six years, hundreds of kickers, long snappers and punters have helped raise more than $1.4 million for childhood cancer research.

The Kohls’ support of ALSF’s mission to empower student athletes to help cure childhood cancer is why ALSF is proud to present Jamie and Charlene Kohl with the 2023 Alex Scott Crystal Cup Award.

Kick-It is proud to help carry on Alex's legacy as a program of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation 💛

My daughter Alex would be turning 27 years old today.

As I reflect on her birthday it's always a time of “what if?” What if she had survived? What would she be like today? So much about her was yet to be known. But I know with certainty the legacy she left and I'm grateful for it. I consider myself very lucky to remember Alex in such a positive and inspiring way through “her lemonade stand,” one cup at a time!

For Alex, childhood cancer meant a lifetime of hardships — endless medical procedures and uncertainty, pain, the lack of any sort of childhood normalcy, and for Alex, childhood cancer meant ultimately missing the opportunity to grow up.

Despite all the awful hard stuff, Alex‘s life was a gift and remembering her beautiful life is a gift, too. Alex certainly gave me a multitude of memories and lifetime of joy. Even beyond her legacy of hope for other children, she gave me many wonderful memories, so many shared moments, and a huge personality that left her mark on my soul forever. I'm forever grateful to her and for her life — a life that has given the opportunity at life to other kids like Edie, Zack, Philip, and countless other kids who have fought their battles and won thanks to research funded by the legacy Alex created.

I hope today, if you knew Alex or were inspired by her, you will share your comments on our social media posts.

This mom’s heart can always use some happy thoughts on this difficult day.

And to Alex, my sweet girl, I say happy birthday. I miss you and love you. You were a treasure.

Xoxo,

Mom
