San Francisco teachers, this one’s for you. EcoRise is looking for a part-time Education Specialist to coach educators across SFUSD and the Bay Area as they bring student-led climate projects into their classrooms.

You’d visit schools, build relationships with teachers, help lead professional learning, and support Student Innovation Grants that put real funding behind student ideas. It’s a way to stay close to classrooms while shaping what climate education looks like across a city. 🌱

Second-graders at Austin Elementary in Galveston audited their classmates’ snacks, then planted fruit trees that will feed their school for years. Fifth-graders at Carman Elementary in San Juan placed a plant in all 50 classrooms. And Austin Youth Climate Council members collected water samples from local waterways to test for microplastics, then took their research to Capitol staffers. 🍎🌱🔎

Those are three of the stories in our 2025–2026 Texas Impact Report. This year, 3,607 student innovators led 51 projects across the state that saved water, diverted waste, produced food, and improved the places where they learn. Nearly 70 high schoolers on the Austin and San Antonio Youth Climate Councils spent their school year in the field with partners like Austin Energy, Eco Centro, the San Antonio Food Bank, and Solar Austin, and 39 students spent the summer in paid green career internships.

Annika spent three years on EcoRise's Austin Youth Climate Council, and then created a space for her peers to do the same kind of work.

On September 11, she brought her voice to a panel at the 2026 Movability Summit. She joined Derek Hansen of Ghisallo Cycling Initiative, Eileen McGinnis of Parents' Climate Community, and Paige Ellis for City Council District 8 to talk about how young people's lived experiences should shape the infrastructure being built.

Both roles will provide hyperlocal teacher outreach, classroom coaching, and professional development for educators bringing EcoRise lessons and Student Innovation Grants into their schools.

Fifth graders at Kocurek Elementary audited their campus and spotted a flooding walkway, bare courtyard soil, and a pond that needs repairs. Then they applied for Student Innovation Grants to fix them.

These young leaders have been awarded the first three Student Innovation Grants of the school year, totaling $2,119! 🎉 By May 2027, one team will turn 300 square feet into native pollinator habitat, starting with milkweed seed balls for monarch caterpillars. Another will install six bug hotels and survey species along set paths. A third will test water at school and at the Frio River to design a solution to campus runoff. 🔎💧🐛

Congratulations to these researchers and Assistant Principal Amanda Lengnick-Hall in Austin ISD! Thank you to H-E-B Tournament of Champions for supporting this class to improve their community.

Climate Week NYC ended on the best possible note 🌱 Teacher Ambassador JoEllen Schuleman spent Friday evening at the American Museum of Natural History sharing her students' sustainability projects with a room full of educators and climate organizations. Seeing youth-led ideas take center stage felt like the perfect close to a week that was full of them.

It started days earlier at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, where our green career pathways work was featured at What's Working Way and the Education & the Future of Work working session. From there, our team spent the week in rooms with funders, teachers, city leaders, and total strangers who turned out to want the same thing we do: more young people with a real path into climate work. 🌍

Between a panel on AI in the classroom and a conversation about who gets to shape the buildings we learn and work in, we heard and contributed to lots of ideas to move this work forward. We're excited to continue these conversations with the folks we met!

The green schools community is coming to our hometown! 🌿

The Green Schools Conference is in Austin from February 8 to 10, 2027, and it's a chance to connect what happens in your classroom to change across a whole school. Swap ideas with educators from across the country, explore practical resources for sustainability education, and take home a community of peers who get it.

Ten students spent this past summer in the South Bronx growing food, connecting with community, and getting paid for it. By 2027, thirty will. 💪🥬🍅

That's the Commitment to Action EcoRise is featuring this week at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York.

Students work 110 hours over six weeks alongside community organizations doing sustainability work in their own neighborhoods. They earn a stipend, a mentor, and a professional network that outlasts the summer.

The 2025 pilot ran with students from Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School and BLK Projek - The Black Feminist Project. We're excited to grow this program and connect more students to green career internships. Learn more and get involved: ecorise.org/green-careers

📣 [2026-27 Applications OPEN!] 📣 EcoRise Youth Climate Council
EcoRise is excited to announce that the San Antonio Youth Climate Council is accepting applications for the 2026-2027 cohort. In partnership with the City of San Antonio's Office of Sustainability, we are excited to invite new participants and are seeking highly motivated high school students to engage in community issues around climate change, community advocacy, and environmental justice.

The council will consist of high school youth from all communities and districts in San Antonio. Students of color, students with disabilities, LGBTQIA+, and/or immigrant/migrant experiences are encouraged to apply. Students should read the program one-pager and apply here by September 17th, 2026. Please help us get the word out!
