This Foster Care Awareness Month, we’re continuing to learn from voices and perspectives shaped by personal journeys through foster care and adoption.

We asked members of our team to reflect on two questions: What do you wish you had known earlier in your foster/adoptive journey? And what helped you keep going during difficult seasons?

Their answers reminded us that no one was meant to walk this journey alone. Community matters. Hope matters. Asking for help matters. Showing up matters.

Recently, we hosted a CPA Lunch & Listen with local Child Placing Agencies to hear their perspective on foster care, support, and the realities families face throughout the journey.

Their insight reminded us that foster families don’t need perfection, they need community, encouragement, practical support, and people willing to show up in both big and small ways.

Join us from 6:00–7:30 PM at the playground at First United Methodist Church for an evening of connection, encouragement, and community with other foster, adoptive, and kinship families.

To the mothers, foster moms, adoptive moms, kinship caregivers, biological moms, grandmothers, and the many women who step into nurturing roles with love and sacrifice, we see you today.

Mother’s Day can hold joy, gratitude, grief, longing, exhaustion, healing, and hope all at once. For some, it is a day of celebration. For others, it may carry reminders of loss, separation, waiting, or hard seasons still unfolding.

The Fostering Hope team honors every person walking alongside children and families with compassion, consistency, and care. Thank you for the countless seen and unseen ways you show up.

Throughout this month, members of our team will be sharing perspectives shaped by lived experience through foster care and adoption.

We asked each person two questions:

-What is one thing you wish more people understood about foster care?
-What does support for foster families actually look like?

Their answers reflect something we believe deeply at Fostering Hope: foster, adoptive, and kinship families were never meant to do this alone.

Support can look like encouragement, meals, childcare, mentorship, consistency, community, and simply continuing to show up long after placement day.
