A new coalition has formed to oppose a potential state takeover of Austin ISD after two middle schools received their fifth consecutive failing accountability rating. 📚

Keep Austin Schools Independent held a press conference outside Eastside Early College High School, where speakers outlined concerns about replacing the district's nine elected trustees with a state-appointed board of managers.

State law allows TEA to take over an entire district if just one campus is low-performing for five consecutive years. The agency is expected to announce its plan once the appeal deadline passes.

Happy Labor Day, Education Austin!

Today is a reminder that we are part of something bigger. Education Austin is a merged union of TSTA/NEA, AFT/Texas AFT, and the Texas AFL-CIO. Our strength comes from educators and workers organizing together.

And right now, there is a lot to organize for.

Join us Saturday, September 19 from 11 AM–1:30 PM at the TSTA Building for our Education Austin Members Meeting.

MEMBER FORUM: Bring your ideas, concerns, and priorities. This is your union. Help shape what your coworkers bring to consultation.

TEXAS AFT LISTENING TOUR: Texas AFT President Zeph Capo will join us to hear directly from Austin educators about what’s happening in our schools and what educators need.

TEA TAKEOVER: We’ll talk about the very real possibility of a TEA takeover of Austin ISD and what it could mean for our students, our schools, our jobs, and local control.

The fights ahead will take all of us. We need members organized, informed, and ready to act.

Happy Labor Day. Now let’s get to work!!

We’re back to school, but we won’t be going back to Starbucks!
We’re fed up with unchecked corporate greed and wealthy executives ignoring their workers and breaking labor laws more than any other company in modern U.S. history.
We’re proud to join workers to until baristas win a fair union contract. When workers take on one of the biggest corporations in the world, they shouldn’t have to do it alone.
Join us and stand with union baristas – take the pledge and let’s show Starbucks that working people stand with baristas until they win. ➡️ BoycottStarbucks.net
