What an elegant, inspiring, joyful, musical, tearful, magical, fun evening with hundreds of ladies baking challah together at the Boots & Braids Women's Mega Challah Bake hosted by the Chabads of the Greater Austin area!

Our theme was Boots & Braids — the boots symbolize the courage and strength of Jewish women to keep moving forward, even when the road is difficult, while the braids remind us that, like strands of challah, we are stronger when we come together.

And here in Texas, where everything is bigger, may we carry that spirit forward with bigger hearts, greater courage, and an even stronger commitment to one another.

Every baseball journalist knows that you don’t talk to a starting pitcher on the day he is scheduled to make his start. Pitchers typically have very careful, practiced routines, and any disruption might throw them off their game. So even a casual greeting — let alone a conversation — is verboten.

But 60 years ago, Chabad-Lubavitch representative Rabbi Moshe Feller did just that. He met and had a conversation with a starting pitcher, hours before he was going to pitch — in the World Series.

The starter was Sandy Koufax, the ace and leader of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching staff. The date was October 7, 1965 — the day after Yom Kippur. The day before, the Dodgers had begun the World Series near Minneapolis, facing the Minnesota Twins.

Game 1 of the World Series traditionally matches each team’s ace against each other, but in a decision that shocked baseball fans around the world, Koufax — who even today is considered one of the best pitchers to have played the game — sat out Game 1 in observance of Yom Kippur.

“The Left Arm of God,” as Koufax was nicknamed, had declined to pitch in observance of G-d’s mitzvot.

Day 1 of our new equestrian program was amazing at Tamim Academy of Austin! Beyond being tons of fun, studies show that equestrian work does wonders for kids' motor skills, balance, and cognitive ability.

Here is some of what our Tamim students riders got to do today: They practiced mounting, steering, and stopping, stretched on horseback for better balance, and tested their control with a game of Red Light, Green Light. So proud of them!

Tisha B'av😢 Schedule

We are now (in our Jewish calendar) in the midst of days of mourning, this Wed Jul 22 evening (Austin 8:31) and Thursday till nightfall is TISHA B'AV

Wed evening, we will gather at Chabad for Maariv at 9:00 to Pray the evening service followed by the reading of EICHA - Lamentations, come wearing none leather footware.

Thursday Morning (Preferably we don't work) we will start services 10:00 followed by Torah reading and Kinot.

Talit &Tefillin is not worn in the morning

Mincha: 7:00pm bring Tallit & Trefillin
Fast ends and Maariv 8:58 pm

One who mourns the Destruction will merit to see the Temple rebuilt soon!

Watch daily a Siyum online Chabad.org/Siyum (15 minutes daily)

It is customary to participate in a "siyum" celebrating the completion of a section in Torah during the days that we mourn the Temple's destruction
