Welp, that’s a wrap! For 30 days, I’ve known this day was coming, that July 21 was going to be my last day serving the citizens of McKinney as a police officer.
I can't believe how fast the last 27 years have gone by as I've worked to serve and protect citizens—and the bulk of those with the McKinney Police Department. During my career, I’ve had the honor and privilege to work with some of the very best local, state and federal law enforcement officers.
And, for nearly 20 years, the men and women of the McKinney Police Dept. have been my “blue family." We’ve laughed and cried, had good days and bad days, and had some truly harrowing and scary moments—as well as moments I wish we could unsee. I owe this family everything. In the end, the culmination of all those days made it absolutely worth it to pin on the badge.
So what do you say at the end of a 27 year career with all of those different feelings and emotions? I say first and most importantly, thank you, God, for watching over me and protecting me through every shift. I say thank you for allowing me to make it home to my family and for allowing me to make it to the finish line!
I then say to my wife and my family…thank you for your continued support, for standing by me during the callouts, missed school events, missed holidays, birthdays...and the list goes on. Thank you for keeping the house running smoothly when duty called me away and put a “kink” in the plans. Thank you for all your sacrifices! I Love You!
I then say thank you to the many fallen officers whose funerals I attended during this 27 year career, the ones that made the ultimate sacrifice, who didn’t make it home, who didn’t make it across the finish line. Thank you! Thank you for your sacrifice! And, to the families who miss them every day, may God’s peace and comfort continue to be with you.
To my law enforcement family who continue to serve their communities and citizens…keep up the good fight and stay safe!!! God bless!!!
