TSTA (Texas State Teachers Association) - Retired This Association is dedicated to the promotion of retirement with dignity, happiness, and adequate income through advocacy and activism. Did You Know?

TSTA-Retired is the only retired educators association in Texas affiliated with the National Education Association. TSTA/NEA-Retired was organized in 1991. This Association is dedicated to the promotion of retirement with dignity, happiness, and adequate income through:
-Promoting the social, professional and economic status and the general welfare of retired school employees.
-Furthering the adva

ncement of public education in Texas and the United States of America.
-Promoting membership, communications, cooperation, and leadership development within the TSTA/NEA-R membership.
-Furnishing a practical basis for united action with others who are devoted to the cause of education.
-Promoting voluntary participation by its members in civic and educational affairs.
-Developing a legislative program for members through the TSTA legislative process.
-Becoming involved in the election of pro-education candidates to public office and lobbying for educational measures in conjunction with policy decisions made by the TSTA.
-Supporting TSTA/NEA programs and practices, abiding by their Bylaws and not opposing, outside of the Association's policy making process, any policy or program of TSTA/NEA.
-Encouraging and assisting the activities of TSTA and TSTA-SP at the state and local levels. Active members can continue their membership and support of TSTA by joining TSTA Pre-Retired. You can join if you are eligible to receive a pension and were employed by a school district for at least five years. If you only belong to TSTA-Retired, we invite you to join NEA-Retired and become a unified member. If you only belong to NEA-Retired, we invite you to join TSTA-Retired and become a unified member. The Houston Area TSTA-Retired recently visited the powerful 3‐story African American Heritage Monument in Kendleton, TX. It is a testament to the town's resilient Freedman roots and its people's determination to build a brighter future. Located along scenic walking trails with informative plaques near two historic Black cemeteries in Bates Allen Parks, the monument serves as a beacon of hope and education shedding light on African American history in Fort Bend County and inspiring positive change.

During the 35th Anniversary celebration, TSTA-Retired thanked and recognized TSTA for their continued support and guidance in San Marcos, Texas.
Three recipients who were not present, were later recognized during the TSTA Board of Directors meeting: OCALD Director Paty Varela, Administrative Manager Kay Williams and Support Staff Rosie Castillo.

At our Texas State Teachers Association-Retired 35th Annual Meeting this April in San Marcos, two members were recognized with the Presidents Award for their outstanding contributions to our Association.
TSTA-R Secretary, Becky Cerliano, received the award by spearheading the effort to make the DFW Region meetings available to all our membership via Zoom.This has made it possible for our members who are unable to attend to participate virtually and stay informed.
TSTA-Retired Past President, Johnetta Williams also received the award. She has been our mentor, advisor and expert in by-laws and policy. Her expertise is also in running our fundraising efforts including but not limited to, auctions, popcorn sales, shirt sales, gift card tree and the retired quilt.
These ladies have been instumental in the continued success and growth of our Association.
