🫶Meet Our Team: Namrata Chhillar, Save Our Springs Senior Paralegal!

🤩Namrata joined our team, and we were forever changed. Her patience, precision, and drive to keep digging until she reaches the truth make her an incredible asset to the Save Our Springs legal team. She is gentle in nature, meticulous in her work, and fiercely committed to protecting water and the people who depend on it. She brings thoughtfulness and determination to everything she takes on, from the fine print of a public records request to the fight for clean water at the Railroad Commission.

🇮🇳Namrata was born and raised in Delhi, one of the most polluted cities in the world. “I’ve seen up close how pollution affects you and alters lives, especially children’s, who haven’t had their share of a happy & healthy life. It breaks my heart how unsustainably we’re living, and I always wanted to contribute in a way that touches people’s lives directly.”

🛟 She got great advice growing up: “My dad always told me it’s more important to be happy than successful - do good, and keep a clear conscience. The other one I live by: When you’re stuck in a loop, go for a walk or talk to a friend, and you’ll almost always end up with positive thoughts.”

✌️Completely blown away by the luv and support we felt at last nights benefit show and activation led by Jackie Venson and Save Our Springs Alliance … RADIO / EAST rolled out the red carpet for 10 nonprofit orgs all fighting data centers and increasing access to democracy and personal agency.

So many folks showed up to learn about how to get involved. Activism takes on many different forms, and we’re here for it. ⏰On Tuesday, October 27, nearly 1,000 high school students from all over Austin will descend on Barton Springs for a day of discovery and hands-on environmental education, bringing students face-to-face with the science, people, and places shaping Central Texas. Students will explore everything from cave dye tracing and hydrogeology to native tree planting, biodiversity, and the underground connections that keep our springs flowing. They’ll learn alongside organizations and experts including TreeFolks, Symbiosis TX, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Austin Water, Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center, Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, and SOOO many more.

Here’s where you come in! 🙌 Whether you’re a longtime BSU volunteer or joining us for the first time, we have a place for you. Help set up, guide students between activities, or keep the day’s magic moving behind the scenes.

◾️ BREAKING ::: Save Our Springs Alliance has filed a lawsuit against the City of Austin to uncover how much public water may be committed to a proposed Tesla data center. In March 2026, SOS filed a request with Austin Water Utility for the water and wastewater applications from proposed data centers. We got details on a smaller data center in Northwest Austin. 👉On the Tesla-linked one, nearly every detail was withheld. Tesla said its water application was a “trade secret.” 🤫Projected use of public water is PUBLIC information, not a trade secret...🤔

🧮Tesla is already one of Austin Water’s third-highest water consumer; its gigafactory was reported to use 556 MILLION💧 gallons of water in 2025. Further expansion including a data center, would consume even more of Austin’s limited water. This 🧑‍⚖️ lawsuit is part of a growing movement demanding government transparency🔎🔎🔎

In May 2026, The Texas Attorney General ordered the City to release the records. 57 days later. We got 15 pages, Many were blacked ◼️out entirely. producing records with nothing in them, makes a mockery of the Public Information Act. Save Our Springs Alliance , Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance, and Save Salado Creek recently stopped a proposed 700,000-gallons-per-day wastewater discharge from moving forward as originally proposed. ‼️TCEQ is considering another wastewater permit, WQ0015664002, which would allow up to 250,000 gallons per day of treated municipal wastewater containing elevated nutrients and other pollutants to flow into Salado Creek across the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone and near habitat for the threatened Salado Springs salamander.

FYI 🥰The Salado Springs salamander is found only in this unique spring system. It depends on clean, flowing spring water, and the creek, aquifer, and springs are all part of a connected hydrological system. What we put into the watershed doesn’t disappear, but these creatures could. 🫥 🚨💧
