Wendy Colonna is coming on Sunday, December 6th, from 2-5. Wendy is incredibly talented and kind and you may have seen in the power band Sister Golden Hair.
Wendy Colonna is a Louisiana-born, Texas-based performing artist, CCA Certified Career Coach, and founder of Lyriculture™. With nine studio albums and nearly 30 years on stage, she helps musicians name what makes their work unforgettable and build careers that fit their lives.
What Wendy’s going to talk to us about:
Marketing for Musicians Who Hate Marketing
Describe your music so people feel it, remember it, and come find you.
What if marketing felt like helping people find music they'll love?
Where musicians get stuck
I hear this from every musician I work with, and I feel it myself. Even musicians with albums, tours, and full calendars get stuck in these places:
Someone asks, "So, what kind of music do you make?" and you freeze, ramble, or say "kind of a mix of everything."
Marketing makes you feel icky.
You pour your heart into sharing your songs, your story, and where the music came from, and it still doesn't quite connect the way you hoped with the people you want to reach.
The algorithm games wear you out. You keep posting anyway, or you burn out and quit.
Your people gather in all kinds of places beyond the typical music venues, and you're struggling to reach them.
You struggle at networking events or just don’t go because it’s weird and awkward
We all need other people to help us find clarity about how to share our music in ways that work for us, sustain us, and feel life-giving.
How we do it: creativity and connection first
This workshop taps into your creativity. Musicians already know how to notice a feeling, find the right words, and play. We use those same skills to talk about our music, find our people, and share our work. Creativity carries us through the fear of "business" and the fear of doing it wrong, and it makes this work feel like play. And we do it together.
Who it's for
Musicians at any level who want more gigs, to connect with a bigger audience, or want to make money from their music
Newer players who are still finding their sound and want words for it
Working musicians with albums and steady gigs who still struggle to describe their music in a way that connects
Songwriters, bands, and solo artists in any genre
Anyone who wants to share their music as themselves
If you want a way to share your music that gives you energy and keeps you going, this workshop is for you.
What to expect
Answer a few easy questions about your music, like what people say after a show and how you want listeners to feel.
Share your answers with two other musicians. They tell you what they heard, and their words often describe your music better than yours do.
Turn what you heard into a first draft of your answer to "What kind of music do you make?"
Brainstorm places your listeners already gather, such as breweries, yoga studios, farmers markets, and house concerts.
Say your answer out loud to someone in the room and practice introducing each other.
You will walk out with
More clarity on how to answer "What kind of music do you make?"
Words for your secret sauce, from people who just heard you
A new way to look for your people, and tools to find out where they gather
Ideas for places to try, each with one small first step
A head start on the FAQ for your booking page, so people searching online can find you
Practice introducing yourself and each other, so your next event starts with a real conversation
Why it matters
People come to shows, follow, and share when they can picture what your music feels like. The right words help them find you, and gigs, referrals, and new listeners follow from conversations you already have.
Bring a notebook and a pen. Your instrument can stay home.
