We are grateful for the incredible life and legacy of Dolly Parton, especially her commitment to childhood literacy. For more than 30 years, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has helped foster a love of reading, sending free books to children each month from birth to age five — a total of 60 books per child. To date, the program has given away more than 332 million books worldwide.
At TLA’s Annual Conference earlier this year, we celebrated Texas State Library and Archives Commission's launch of a major expansion of the Imagination Library in Texas. State funding, along with matching funds coordinated by local partners and libraries, helps cover the cost of books and postage so communities can enroll more Texas children in the program. Today, there are 85 local Imagination Library programs across the state. You can learn more at https://ow.ly/plAU50ZFOfe.
Books and reading can open so many doors for children, inspiring big dreams for their future. Thank you, Dolly, for sharing your love of reading and helping to open those doors for millions of children around the world.
