We work with our community to expand opportunities for young people to learn, thrive and succeed.

The Andy Roddick Foundation was established in 2000 with a vision that all young people have endless opportunities to discover and achieve their potential. Since that time, the Foundation has worked with our community to raise funds for programs that improve the daily lives of thousand of children. Upon Andy Roddick's retirement from tennis, he decided to transform the Foundation from solely providing grants to one that will have an even deeper community impact. In 2012, ARF moved its headquarters from Florida to Andy's hometown of Austin, Texas. In 2013 the Foundation underwent a strategic direction change to include a more comprehensive strategy to provide greater opportunity to young people residing in under-resourced neighborhoods in Austin. The Foundation is now focused on working with our community to expand opportunities for young people to learn, thrive, and succeed. We do this by ensuring young people have year round-opportunities outside the school day - where students spend 80% of their waking hours. These are the hours when students are at risk of losing academic skills, being a victim of violent crime, gaining weight by not being physically active, and engaging in risky behaviors. However, high-quality out-of-school time programs have a positive and lasting effect on students by keeping them safe, engaged, and active. We work to transform time outside of school into hours of opportunity!

📚☀️ Summer was full of stories!

Reading was woven into our summer program in lots of fun and meaningful ways. Each week, we read stories connected to our summer themes to kick off activities and spark curiosity. Our older and younger campers also partnered up for buddy reading, giving kids the chance to learn from and connect with one another through books.

We were also excited to welcome the Public Library twice at each of our sites this summer! Library staff brought books for our campers to choose and take home, helping keep the joy of reading going beyond our program.

From themed stories to buddy reading to building home libraries, we loved making reading a part of our campers’ summer adventures. ❤️📖

This summer, our alumni had the opportunity to come back to camp one day a week, not just to give back, but to grow, learn, and prepare for what’s next.

Alongside mentoring and supporting our younger campers, our alumni participated in career talks, explored organizations supporting middle and high school youth, joined a field trip, and gained a skill that can open doors for future opportunities - 25 alumni received their certification CPR and First Aid!

Learning CPR and First Aid gave our alumni a valuable certification they can carry into future jobs, volunteer opportunities, and leadership roles. More importantly, it’s one more way we’re helping them build confidence, responsibility, and the skills to make a difference in their communities.

We’re so proud to watch our alumni grow from campers into mentors, leaders, and future community changemakers.

Jaime Garcia, CEO of ARF, is co-chair Activate Third Spaces for GenATX alongside Kathy Kuras, CEO of the . This citywide initiative is working to make Austin the best place in America to be a kid. It’s been an honor to be part of this work!

As we move into phase 2 of the initiative, we are pleased to welcome Fran Baylor as GenATX’s first executive director!

According to GenATX research, “A child's daily life happens in places outside the home and the classroom. Parks. Playgrounds. Rec centers. Library plazas. The fields and sidewalks and gathering spaces where children learn to move through the world on their own. On every measure of how much of that space Austin provides its children, Austin lags its peer cities.”

We look forward to working alongside Fran, Kathy and our community partners to identify Austin’s third spaces, identify opportunities for elementary through high school students to have safe spaces, and activate green spaces through collaborations among local organizations. These efforts build on the work already being done well in our city while creating an opportunity to connect the dots and elevate our shared spaces.

Together, we can help more Austin children grow up healthy, safe and happy.

After traveling through the past all summer, our campers ended their Time Travel adventure with a look toward the future! 🚀✨

Campers reflected on their own journeys by creating autobiographical timelines and imagined who they might become through future self-portraits. They thought about where they’ve been, where they are now, and all the possibilities that may lie ahead.
And because the future might look (and taste) a little different, campers also got to try a possible food of the future: caramel popcorn with crickets! 🦗🍿

It was the perfect way to wrap up a summer spent exploring different times, places, people, and ideas to help them understand the past and imagine what the future might hold.

Thanks to everyone who helped make another incredible ARF Summer Learning Program possible. Because of the generosity of our donors, our program is completely free for all youth and families, creating opportunities for campers to learn, grow, and discover all summer long. 💙

This summer our campers traveled back to the 1980s for a week full of creativity, color, and imagination! 🎮🎨

Campers designed and created their own handheld video games – no electricity required! They also explored the bold and playful art of Keith Haring by creating self-portraits inspired by his iconic style.

To wrap up the week, campers decorated reusable bags, creating something colorful and useful that they could take with them beyond camp.
From art to games and everything in between, our campers had a totally awesome time traveling back to the ’80s! ✨

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, ARF’s Summer Learning Program is completely free for all youth, giving campers the opportunity to learn, create, explore, and experience something new all summer long.

Great people. New connections. Lots of learning.

We had an amazing morning with our LATT Network partners at last week’s Fall All-Partner Convening!

We were excited to welcome Mayor Kirk Watson, who kicked off the morning by sharing more about Gen ATX and the work underway to help make Austin a great place for young people to grow up, learn, and thrive

We also learned about Every Kid, Every Community, a TXPOST and Wallace Foundation initiative focused on Building Community OST Champions and highlighting the importance of strong out-of-school time opportunities for kids and communities across Texas.

And we made plenty of time for what the LATT Network does best: connecting and learning together. Partners made new connections during LATT Link-Up, and put their Network knowledge to the test with a little Jeopardy and received updates from Raising Travis County!

Thank you to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area for hosting us and thanks to everyone who joined us, shared your ideas, and continues to show up for youth across our community. We’re so grateful for this network—and for the work we get to do together.

Peace, creativity, and a little fondue! ✌️ This summer our campers traveled back to the 1960s for a week of art, history, and hands-on learning.

Campers explored the Civil Rights Movement by creating monuments to civil rights leaders using reusable materials. Their creativity was incredible and inspiring! They learned about the bold, colorful style of Andy Warhol through their own self-portraits and worked together to create peace murals representing their teams. They even tried a popular food from the decade – fondue!

To bring history to life, campers visited the LBJ Presidential Library, where they had the opportunity to learn more about this important period in US history. The campers agreed that it was a groovy week!
