Andy Roddick Foundation We work with our community to expand opportunities for young people to learn, thrive and succeed.

The Andy Roddick Foundation was established in 2000 with a vision that all young people have endless opportunities to discover and achieve their potential. Since that time, the Foundation has worked with our community to raise funds for programs that improve the daily lives of thousand of children. Upon Andy Roddick's retirement from tennis, he decided to transform the Foundation from solely provi

ding grants to one that will have an even deeper community impact. In 2012, ARF moved its headquarters from Florida to Andy's hometown of Austin, Texas. In 2013 the Foundation underwent a strategic direction change to include a more comprehensive strategy to provide greater opportunity to young people residing in under-resourced neighborhoods in Austin. The Foundation is now focused on working with our community to expand opportunities for young people to learn, thrive, and succeed. We do this by ensuring young people have year round-opportunities outside the school day - where students spend 80% of their waking hours. These are the hours when students are at risk of losing academic skills, being a victim of violent crime, gaining weight by not being physically active, and engaging in risky behaviors. However, high-quality out-of-school time programs have a positive and lasting effect on students by keeping them safe, engaged, and active. Our community is grieving a friend, a voice for our children, a leader, a changemaker, a champion and so much more as we mourn the loss of Cathy McHorse.

We are fortunate to live in Austin where early childhood and afterschool and summer programs work so closely together. Cathy was the mastermind and leader behind the Travis County Proposition to create an investment channel for our youth.

"Cathy’s dedication, leadership, and deep belief in what is possible for young children have transformed programs, strengthened partnerships, and impacted countless individuals across our communities." Raising Travis County Team

She was fierce, a powerhouse with the kindest soul you could meet. Her wicked smartness was held with humility and modesty. We learned from the best and were inspired by Cathy - by her voice, confidence, persistence, collaborative approach, and standing for her values.

When the ARF team focuses on our value of "We Dream Big" we will always be reminded of Cathy's work and legacy.

Our thoughts are with her family and community during this hard time.

When Lenzie Sanchez found out she’d won a Breakfast of Champions award, she was managing a personal matter, congratulatory texts lighting up her phone while she was miles from the event. When Zarek Gomez heard his name called, he was sitting in the audience, still puzzling over why everyone had told him to dress so sharp that morning.

Neither was expecting it. Because for them, showing up for youth is just the job.

Lenzie (Senior Education Programs Manager) and Zarek (Teen Youth Program Assistant) at Foundation Communities Learning Centers both received professional development stipends as part of their BOC awards, made possible through the Webber Foundation. Lenzie invested hers in Leadership Austin’s prestigious Emerge program, gaining leadership tools that sharpened her ability to coach and develop her team. Zarek used part of his to earn a Certified Nursing Assistant license, formalizing the expertise he’d already built in the field, and he’s saving the rest for skills that will follow him wherever life takes him after graduation.
