From a 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force to active ministry and weekly food distributions across Atlanta, Veteran Vickey and her husband Paul have dedicated their entire lives to serving others.

Now, it’s our turn to serve them.

As proud Atlanta legacy residents, they love their home, but health challenges and rising costs have made critical upkeep difficult. Urgent safety issues—including an unstable deck, a hazardous front walkway, bathroom accessibility hurdles, and missing fire safety essentials—threaten their ability to safely age in place.

That’s why Rebuilding Together Atlanta is thrilled to partner with the incredible team from Swinerton on September 18th!

A massive THANK YOU to all the Swinerton volunteers who were on-site tackling these vital health and safety repairs (and helping build raised garden beds for Vickey’s fresh produce!). Your hard work ensures this deserving couple can remain safe, secure, and thriving in the community they give so much to every day.

Together, we’re making lasting change—one neighbor and one act of service at a time.

At 87, Ms. Ann is fiercely independent and determined to remain in the Smyrna home she bought in 1988—the place where she built a career, raised her son as a single mother, and created nearly 40 years of memories.

As homes age, upkeep like painting railings, clearing overgrowth, pressure washing, and repairing decks can quickly become overwhelming for a senior living on her own.

That’s why Rebuilding Together Atlanta was proud to partner once again with volunteers from CBRE on September 18th. For over 10 years, CBRE has been an invaluable mission partner, stepping up with tools and heart to help legacy homeowners safely age in place.

"It would not be possible for me to stay in my home without all of you," Ann shared. "It is really amazing to be thought of and to be chosen to get help."

Thank you, CBRE, for showing up to preserve homes, safety, and independence in our community.

A house is never just four walls—it is a living archive of service, community, and family history.

For nearly six decades, Ms. Roxie's home in Smyrna, Georgia, has been just that. Purchased in May 1967 with her late husband, it was where they raised four children, hosted neighborhood gatherings, and where they operated an in-home daycare for 30 years, caring for generations of local families.

Ms. Roxie proudly served four years in the United States Air Force and later worked as a material handler at , moving aircraft parts for the C-130 and B-47, before spending 55 years as a chef at the Dobbins Air Force Base NCO Club. Following his passing seven years ago, recent knee surgery, and ongoing mobility challenges, maintaining the home has become difficult for Mrs. James. Her goal is clear: to age safely, comfortably, and independently in the place where her family's roots run deepest.

Through the Veterans at Home initiative, On September 4th, 2026 - Rebuilding Together partnered with Martin to complete critical safety, exterior, and accessibility modifications on Ms. Roxie's home—bringing the legacy full circle as Lockheed Martin volunteers showed up to serve the family of one of their own.

Thank you to every volunteer and partner who dedicated their time and energy to ensure she can continue living safely in the home she loves.

Thank you to FOX 5 Atlanta's Maria Guzman for sharing the story of our build with QXO and the City of Smyrna, GA this morning. We had such a productive day on site and are especially grateful for the incredible team of workers who brought so much energy and enthusiasm to the project. It was a wonderful day to be part of this community effort!

Community volunteers are coming together across two event dates in Smyrna, Georgia, to perform critical health, safety, and exterior home improvements for longtime senior residents.
