Across Somalia, as food becomes increasingly scarce, mothers are struggling to keep their children fed, pregnant and breastfeeding women are battling to meet their own nutritional needs, and girls face growing risks of dropping out of school, exploitation and early marriage.

While Nepal may be fading from the headlines, the need for support has not. CARE continues to deliver critical aid to families recovering from the devastating August 26 flash floods, and we need your help.

At least 1,411 people have died and 5,875 remain missing. Too often, those who have contributed the least to climate change are among those most affected by its impacts, and this is more apparent than ever following the tragedy in Nepal.

Recently, massive floods and landslides tore through communities in Nepal, destroying homes and upending lives. CARE has a long history of working in Nepal, and we are working with local partners to reach tens of thousands who have been impacted.

What an energizing, thought-provoking start to week: our first CARE Solutions Salon with my partner board chair Richard Stengel and hosted by our long-time board member Glenn Hutchins. I so enjoyed leading the conversation with special guest Secretary Hillary Clinton and a diverse range of civic and governmental leaders, philanthropists, and private sector partners on building the case — and a lasting coalition — to continue bringing lifesaving aid to communities around the world.

We shared that tradition of being raised as Methodists taught us to do “all the good we can, by all the means we can…for all the people you can.” Hillary is such an inspiring example of living this every day.

At 13, Heba was forced to flee Syria with her family and start over as a refugee in Jordan’s Azraq camp. Soccer became a connection to the life she had left behind—and a way to keep looking forward. Today, Heba is a coach with CARE’s soccer program, where she helps girls in the camp build their skills, confidence, and friendships.

Coaching a soccer team of girls in Azraq refugee camp, Heba says, “There’s always a goal that you have to pursue.”

Statement by Iman Abdullahi, CARE Yemen Country Director:

"The humanitarian situation in Yemen is changing rapidly as escalating conflict forces more families from their homes. Families are fleeing to areas they hope will be safer, often after long and difficult journeys and with little more than the clothes they are wearing. This is placing further pressure on already stretched services and humanitarian resources..."
