A home is more than an address. It can be a starting point for opportunity.

On World Habitat Day, we’re thinking about what happens when high-quality housing is connected to everything else families need to thrive: excellent schools, spaces that support health and belonging, and a strong local economy.

We work alongside Community Quarterback Organizations that bring residents and partners together around a shared vision for their neighborhood. Housing is an essential part of that vision because where we live shapes so much of what’s possible.

Strong homes. Strong connections. Strong neighborhoods.

Sometimes, wellbeing starts right outside your front door.

It’s knowing the people who live nearby. Having someone who notices when you haven’t been around. Feeling comfortable asking for help, and knowing you’d do the same for someone else.

Those everyday connections can make a neighborhood feel like more than a place to live. They can create a sense of belonging, support, and care that matters for our wellbeing.

Strong neighborhoods create opportunities for those connections to grow, through welcoming gathering spaces, community events, local organizations, and sometimes something as simple as neighbors looking out for neighbors.

Because community wellbeing isn’t only about the resources available in a neighborhood.

It’s also about knowing you’re part of one.

What makes someone a good neighbor?

Sometimes it’s a wave from across the street. A helping hand when you need one. Someone who checks in, shares what they have, or simply takes the time to know your name.

On National Good Neighbor Day, we’re celebrating the everyday connections that turn a collection of houses and streets into a community.

Because thriving neighborhoods aren’t only shaped by what gets built. They’re shaped by the relationships, trust, and sense of belonging people build together.

So today, we want to hear from you: What does being a good neighbor look like in your community?

Lasting neighborhood transformation starts by listening to the people who are already there and ensuring their voices help shape what comes next.

Because the strongest vision for a neighborhood is one its residents can see themselves in.

What a night in Wilmington!

Last night, we joined REACH Riverside, a Purpose Built Communities® Network Member, in celebrating 80 years of Kingswood and the people who have made this community such a special place.

As part of the celebration, we toured Ernest O. Webster Montessori Academy, part of the Kingswood community, and saw firsthand the work taking shape across the neighborhood.

The evening brought together residents, funders, sponsors, staff, and leaders from across the Purpose Built Network to recognize this milestone and the incredible work that has gone into bringing the Kingswood Community Center to life.

Our CEO, Carol Naughton, joined the celebration and shared remarks, while REACH Riverside CEO Logan Herring brought his energy and vision to the evening.

Congratulations to the entire REACH Riverside team. You have so much to be proud of, and we were thrilled to celebrate alongside you.

We’re excited to see Purpose Built Communities® Network Member REACH Riverside featured in the Healthcare Anchor Network’s latest newsletter as part of its new WorkAdvance initiative. In partnership with Nemours Children’s Health, REACH Riverside will help connect Wilmington residents to training, support, and pathways to high-demand healthcare careers.

It’s a powerful example of what can happen when trusted neighborhood organizations and major local employers work together to create pathways to economic mobility.
