Serving in a new cultural environment?

Rev Collins says leaders often:

👉 Expect things to move as fast as they do back home
👉 Try to fix everything they see

But God doesn't only send us to help.

Sometimes we also learn. 🙏

We are committed to open hands, a listening heart, and a teachable spirit.

💬 Have you ever served in a new culture? What did it teach you?

Real leadership isn't about having the loudest voice in the room.

It's about having the humility to listen, learn, and lead people who don't look, think, or worship like you do.

Rev. Collins shares this lesson in a way that hits home for anyone who's ever led a team, a ministry, or even a family that didn't always see eye to eye.

Watch till the end.

Without a vision, the people perish." How do we actually bring people together in a real, healthy way?
It starts right where we are:
• Find someone whose journey looks completely different from yours.
• Ask them about their story.
• Listen to understand—not to respond or interrupt.
When was the last time a conversation completely shifted how you see things? Let’s chat in the comments.

🌍 What does it mean to truly listen across difference?

Diversity can bring different cultures, experiences, generations, perspectives, and voices into the same room.

But presence alone doesn’t guarantee that those voices are actually heard.

One of the reflections Jade A. Lee shared during this month’s Looking Ahead segment of Convergence Global Live was about the relationship between listening and diversity.

If we’re serious about leading across differences, we have to become leaders who don’t only make room for different voices—we have to be willing to listen to what those voices are saying.

That means listening without immediately preparing our response.

Listening when someone’s experience challenges our assumptions.

Listening to voices that have historically been overlooked.

And sometimes listening long enough to realize:

There may be something I don’t know yet.

Listening doesn’t require us to abandon our convictions. But it can require the humility to recognize that our own experience is not the only experience in the room.

That’s part of the work of building bridges.

That’s part of Leading Across Differences.

🌍 A question for leaders:
Whose voice might you be called to listen to more intentionally in this season?

DIVERSITY REQUIRES MORE THAN A SEAT AT THE TABLE.

It requires a willingness to listen.

A vision goes far when it starts with listening. 🌍

At Convergence Global, we believe listening and learning take a vision further than a solitary plan.

Here's where we're headed next, and how you can be part of it.

Welcome to Convergence Global Live. 🌍

In this September broadcast, we explore Leading Across Differences: Building Bridges in a Divided World.

Leadership today means learning to lead well amid differences — culture, background, belief, and perspective. Before we can unite others, we must learn to listen, understand, and lead with humility across the lines that divide us.

In this episode, we sit down with Rev. Collins Etchi Ako, a missionary with the East Congo Episcopal Area, for a global conversation centered on leadership, unity, cross-cultural understanding, and the work God is doing across nations.

🌍 CONVERGENCE GLOBAL LIVE | SEPTEMBER

How do we lead faithfully when the people around us don’t think, believe, lead, or experience the world exactly as we do?

This month, we’re talking about LEADING ACROSS DIFFERENCES—and what it takes to build bridges in a world where conflict and division can so easily pull us apart.

Jade A. Lee will be joined by The Rev. Collins Etchi Ako, Global Ministries missionary with The United Methodist Church, for a timely conversation about leading across differences and conflict.

We’ll explore what it means to listen across cultures, navigate disagreement, remain rooted in our convictions, and still create space for relationship, understanding, and collaboration.

Because global leadership doesn’t require us to erase our differences.

It requires us to learn how to lead faithfully through them.

LEADING FROM THE INSIDE OUT |

Convergence Global Live

This month's Convergence Global Live looked a little different than originally planned. Instead of our full August broadcast, Jade A. Lee went live to share a message we believe is essential for every leader: Love is All We Need: Leading from the Inside Out.

Before we can lead others well, we must allow God to do God's work within us. Leadership is more than what we build, accomplish, or carry publicly--it is also about who we are becoming privately.

In this message, we explore the spiritual formation of the leader and why lasting impact begins on the inside.

If you are a pastor, ministry leader, community leader, emerging leader, or simply someone seeking to steward your calling well, this message is for you.
