Nothing worse than losing a friend because they didn’t think they had anyone to talk to, so.....Even in my own struggles. Phone is always on, door is always open and a drink can easily be poured. Doing a real friend check. Support each other. I need eight people posting the message not sharing it, to show you’re always there when someone needs to talk. I have an idea of who will say done.

I - am a Mom on a Mission. We send our children to War not realizing when they return home or were given their DD-214s and released that they were bringing inner demons home with them. Not all inner demons were or are released but 22 veterans a day give in to them and commit su***de. I want to stop this from happening to any other mothers or spouses or family members or friends. My daughter tried to join the 22 at least once - and I knew nothing about it - I didnt understand the whole phenomenom. I was (and still am) a typical civilian - unaware of what our loved ones, friends and military go through (or have gone through) to protect those of us at home. I wasnt there for my daughter - but someone was and I am so thankful for that.
I started Moms Got Your Six to not just raise awareness of the 22 a Day - but to actually do something about it. When our person joins the military they are told where to go, what to do, when to eat, what to wear, where to live - they are regulated 24/7. They are told they are expendable to help build up their realization that they are a unit - to help each other - No Man (or Woman) left behind. They develop a camaraderie with their fellow vets, a brotherhood/sisterhood, a bond - knowing they are a very small percentage and therefore - in all honesty - quite special. But when they are given their DD-214(their walking papers so to speak - their release from military life) and released from the military - they are literally thrown back into civilian life and that can be quite a shock. Where they have order and regularity in the service - civilian life is a little more (well a lot more) unorganized and chaotic and well meaning or well intentioned but clueless civilians ask all sorts of invasive or intrusive questions that could bring up memories best left alone.

We as Moms (and of course everyone else) are banding together - to Have Your Six- Until there are none.

Helene, I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the talks that we have had, because of them, I am finally in a good place in my heart, mind and spirit. No one can truly understand the demons that we fight on a daily basis or the how they effect ours daily living. You are a one of a king Gem, and I am truly blessed to have you as my friend.

We are often not looking for people to "fix" things happening in our lives, we actually just want another person to "see us" completely, love us unconditionally, and offer an understanding, kind, compassionate ear.
Knowing another human being cares deeply for us and is there unconditionally can make all the difference.

"Those who fight monsters inevitably change. Because of all that they see and do, they lose their innocence, and a piece of their humanity with it. If they want to survive, they begin to adopt some of the same characteristics as the monsters they fight. It is necessary. They become capable of rage, and extreme violence.

There is a fundamental difference, however. They keep those monster tendencies locked away in a cage, deep inside. That monster is only allowed out to protect others, to accomplish the mission, to get the job done.....Not for the perverse pleasure that the monsters feel when they harm others. In fact, those monster tendencies cause damage...GUILT, ISOLATION, DEPRESSION, PTSD. There is a cost for visiting violence on others when you are not a monster. Those who do so know one thing...The cost inflicted upon society as a whole is far greater without those who fight monsters. That is why they are willing to make that horrible sacrifice so that others may live peaceably.

Before you judge one of us, remember this...

We witness things that humans aren't meant to see...and we see them repeatedly. We perform the duties that you feel are beneath you. We solve your problems... Often by visiting violence upon others. We run towards the things that you run away from. We go out to fight what you fear. We stand between you, and the monsters that want to damage you. You want to pretend that they don't exist, but we know better. We do the things that the vast majority are too soft, too weak, too cowardly to do.

Your life is more peaceful.....because of us.

The current political climate in this country holds that there is nothing worth fighting for. Submission is the popular mantra. Warriors are decried, denigrated, and cast as morally inferior. We know how childish, how asinine, and how cowardly that mindset is.

We know this.....There ARE things worth fighting, and dying for. We know that not every problem can be solved through rational discourse...that some problems can only be solved through the application of force and violence. And, while we do prefer the former....we are perfectly capable of the latter.

We believe that fighting what others fear is honorable, noble, and just....and are willing to pay the price for that deeply held belief. Why? For us, it isn't a choice...

It is what we are. We are simply built that way."

Veterans around the world are experiencing this type of trauma, but do not know what it is or how to talk about it. It is just as dangerous to a person’s mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness as PTSD, but you have probably never even heard of it.
