The future of the Atlanta City Detention Center is about whether our city will choose dignity, care, and accountability—or deepen investments in systems that have historically harmed vulnerable communities.

As talks continue over transferring ownership of the facility to Fulton County, we are raising concerns about documented humanitarian violations connected to ICE detention practices during the years Atlanta’s jail was used to detain immigrants. Families experienced separation, people reported inhumane conditions, and advocates fought to expose the harm caused by a system that treated detention as a solution.

This cannot be ignored.

Expanding detention is not the future our communities asked for. Atlanta can choose a path that values transparency, safety, and belonging for all people. Our communities deserve care, not cages.

We did not always have the right to vote, and getting that right was not easy. Women organized, marched, protested, and fought for a voice, while Black, indigenous, and women of color continued fighting against discrimination and barriers.

Now it is our turn to show up and use our voice for our comunidad y buen vivir!.

This November 3rd, let’s vote.
