Georgians for Affordable Energy was formed to advocate for utility reform so that Georgia Power becomes a utility that seeks to keep costs low and transition to clean energy instead of maximizing profits for out of state shareholders. Corporate interests own our state’s energy regulators.

🚨 GEORGIA POWER’S RATE FREEZE… LASTED ABOUT AS LONG AS A GEORGIA SNOWSTORM 🚨

Remember all those ads about Georgia Power “freezing rates”? 🤔
📈 June 1 brought a 4.6% increase in residential base rates.

💸 Georgia Power says the average bill will go down about $4 per month.

How?

✨ Accounting Magic ✨

Georgia Power is TEMPORARILY applying federal nuclear production tax credits through 2028 to offset bills while simultaneously locking in a PERMANENT 4.6% base rate increase‼️

Would a large corporation really lie in their ads?
😏
But We’ve been told repeatedly that Georgia Power froze rates⁉️
YES‼️

🗳️ Vote Hubbard and Edwards in November. All the cool kids are doing it.

Georgia families have absorbed six rate increases since 2022. Plant Vogtle cost overruns, storm recovery costs, data center expansion, and now another rate increase are all showing up somewhere on customer bills.

The question isn’t whether you’re paying.

The question is whether you’re getting the representation you deserve.

Don’t be fooled‼️

On June 1st, Georgia Power raised rates 4.6% to recover Hurricane Helene costs from customers.

YES, the average bill may temporarily drop about $4 per month, but that’s only because federal nuclear production tax credits are being used to offset part of your bill through 2028.

Meanwhile, Georgia families are stiII paying for six rate increases that added roughly $60 per month to the average residential bill …about $720 more every year.

So let’s put this in perspective:
💰 Bills up roughly $720 per year
💰 Temporary reduction worth about $50 per year
💰 Georgia Power profits: nearly $3 billion last year

The 4.6% rate increase is permanent‼️
The temporary credits are not‼️

And when the current rate freeze ends in 2028, customers will be handed the biII for whatever spending Georgia Power racks up over the next three years.

Georgians deserve transparency, accountability, and commissioners who put customers first.

🗳️ Re-elect Peter Hubbard.
🗳️ Elect Shelia Edwards.
🗳️ Help create a PSC majority willing to challenge Georgia Power instead of rubber-stamping rate hikes.

⚡ The rest of the world is moving forward. Georgia is paying more to stay stuck.

In 2025, clean energy growth exceeded the increase in global electricity demand, allowing fossiI fueI generation to remain flat. Across the United States, more than 90% of new power capacity came from solar, wind, and battery storage.

Meanwhile, Georgia Power is pushing billions of dollars into new gas infrastructure and continuing to saddle customers with the costs of coal, gas, and the $36.8 billion Plant Vogtle project.

The result? Higher bills for Georgia families and small businesses while cleaner, lower-cost alternatives are available right now.

This isn’t a technology problem. It isn’t a reliability problem. It’s a political problem.

For years, PSC Commissioners Jason Shaw, Lauren “Bubba” McDonald, and Tricia Pridemore approved nearly everything Georgia Power requested, allowing customers to absorb the risks while shareholders collect the profits. Georgians are now paying for yesterday’s energy plan while the rest of the world invests in tomorrow’s.

The most important question facing the Public Service Commission is simple:

Why are Georgia customers paying more for energy choices that much of the world is moving away from?

⚡️ Georgia voters just sent a message…

Former Public Service Commissioner Tricia Pridemore lost her primary Tuesday after spending years at the Georgia PSC helping oversee enormous utility biII increases while treating concerned citizens like nuisances instead of ratepayers.

She announced in February she would not seek re-election to the PSC itself because she saw exactly what was happening.

Two incumbent commissioners had already lost their seats in November by massive margins, and she knew voters paying attention to the commission were fed up.

So she tried to move to Congress instead.

And voters rejected that too.

MeanwhiIe, Sheila Edwards won the primary for PSC District 5, and Peter Hubbard is headed into a rematch against former Commissioner Fitz Johnson after Johnson already lost once before.

This matters because the Georgia Public Service Commission directly impacts:
⚡️ Your power bill
⚡️ Data center expansion
⚡️ Georgia Power oversight
⚡️ Fuel cost recovery
⚡️ Long term energy policy

For years, the commission operated like accountability didn’t exist.

We just proved otherwise.

Two years ago today, Georgia Power celebrated Plant Vogtle with cake. ☢️🍰
Customers got the bill.

Plant Vogtle ended up costing $36.8 billion, making it the most expensive power plant ever built.
While commissioners and executives celebrated, Georgia families were left paying for years of cost overruns, delays, and rate increases.

Now three of the five commissioners who voted to put most of those overruns into customer bills have lost their seats.👋👋👋

Voters may not be able to undo the damage, but they can hold people accountable.🗳️🗳️
The lesson from Vogtle is simple: when regulators side with monopoly utilities instead of customers, people notice.

And eventually, they vote‼️

Want to know how much climate change is costing you right now?

Look at your biIIs!💸

Since 2019, Homeowners insurance in Georgia has increased more than 30% because of growing storm damage and extreme weather.

Now it’s hitting your power bill too.

This week at the Georgia Public Service Commission, 👉 Georgia Power is seeking a 4.6% rate increase tied to Hurricane Helene grid destruction ⚡️

Remember last year when Georgia Power and the PSC announced a “rate freeze”?

They sold it like a gift to customers.

Meanwhile rates kept rising all around us📈
And now here comes another increase just one year later ‼️

And it gets worse…

Data center costs are also being shifted onto residential and small business customers.

👏More infrastructure
👏More transmission
👏More fuel costs
👏More profits for Southern Company

And more extraction of wealth from Georgia families.

But voters are already changing the landscape ⚡️

Three commissioners are already gone.
Two more seats are up this fall.

This fight is happening right now 💪

📍 This is what corruption looks like in Georgia ⚡️

Georgia Power CEO Kim Green stood smiling with a golden shovel celebrating a massive new gas plant while Georgia families are already drowning in utility bills.

Let’s call this what it is….

A 1,500 megawatt gas plant is not “clean energy” because you stick some battery storage next to it.
😒It’s still a massive fossil fuel expansion project at a time when Georgia is already dealing with drought, wildfire risk, extreme heat, and climate instabiIity.

And who is all this power really for???

DATA CENTERS‼️

Georgia became one of the hottest data center markets in America because state leadership rolled out the red carpet:
➡️ Dirt cheap industrial electricity rates
➡️ Zero taxes on data center equipment
➡️ A Public Service Commission that keeps approving what Georgia Power wants

Meanwhile residential customers and small businesses get stuck paying more and more and MORE 💸

And now Southern Company is leaning on a $25.6 billion Department of Energy loan backed by taxpayers while executives collect multi MILLION dollar compensation packages.

They call this affordability?!
Georgia families call it bill shock.

They call this economic development?!
Rural communities call it industrial takeover.

They call this leadership?!
Georgians call it corruption.

This gets fixed at the ballot box.

Georgia voters are tired of rubber stamps, backroom deals, and skyrocketing power bills!⚡️

Tuesday night sent a message.

Shelia Edwards didn’t just win … she won a THREE-WAY primary outright with NO runoff!
That takes organization, trust, and deep community support👏🏽
Meanwhile Peter Hubbard pulled nearly ONE MILLION votes in his primary.

Compared to former Commissioner Fitz Johnson barely squeaking through against an underfunded, little-known opponent.
That’s not strength.
That’s a warning sign. 📉

People are waking up to what’s happened at the Georgia PSC:
❌ Endless Georgia Power rate hikes
❌ Plant Vogtle cost overruns dumped on customers
❌ Utility commissioners protecting corporate profits instead of families

Shelia Edwards and Peter Hubbard represent something very different: ACCOUNTABILITY🔥

The Democratic slate is officially set:
⚡️ Peter Hubbard
⚡️ Shelia Edwards

And November just got very interesting.
