🌎💜 World Polio Day | End Polio Now! 💜🌎

In recognition of World Polio Day, the Rotary Club of Asheville South held a social fundraiser on October 24 at Thirsty Monk in Biltmore Park to support Rotary’s mission to eradicate polio worldwide! 💛

Look how far we’ve come! Since 1988, polio cases have decreased by more than 99%, and billions of children have been immunized. Wild poliovirus remains endemic in just two countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan.

We’re closer than ever to a polio-free world, but the work isn’t finished. Together, we can finish what we started and make polio history! 🙌

This week we had the pleasure of hearing Simeon Willis, Director of Religious Education at Saint Barnabus Catholic Church, tell us about a youth mission to Zimbabwe. The focus will be on helping nursing students at Saint Luke's College of Nursing & Midwifery in Lusaka secure laptop computers for training. The country of Zimbabwe in desperate need of healthcare professionals, especially in the remote areas of the country, and Simeon will lead a group of teens to expose them to a new culture and help in any way they can.

Thank you, Rotarians, for stepping up yet again for the good of humanity… this time our members assembled water filters that we purchased through W**e to Water https://wtw.org/ a Boone, NC based organization that responds to disasters at home and overseas to ensure people have access to clean water. They were here for the people of WNC when Helene hit in 2024 and are now responding to the Nepal flooding disaster, as well as operating in many other countries where clean water is needed. Rotary is doing good in the world! 🌎💙💛

🧤💛 Rotarians in Action! 💛🧤

A big THANK YOU to our amazing Rotary Club of Asheville South members who came out today for our roadside cleanup! 🚮🌿

We spent the morning making a difference along our adopted stretch of roadway—one piece of trash (and one bag!) at a time. We’re grateful for everyone who showed up, got their hands dirty, and helped keep our community looking its best. 💪

And a special WELCOME to Derek, who joined us for his first roadside cleanup! We are so glad you’re part of our Rotary family, Derek! 🙌💛

Thank you for being people of action and showing what Rotary is all about—service, fellowship, and making a difference in our community.

A huge THANK YOU to Willow and Brian from the WNC Nature Center for an awesome presentation! We had a great time learning about the amazing animals, conservation work, and all the wonderful things happening at the Nature Center. Loved meeting Mayberry the turtle.

You could definitely feel their passion for what they do—and you gave us plenty to talk about afterward! 😊
