NCHRTP planning in action!

Last month, our NCRHTP Region 1 ROOTS Hub Governance Body gathered for the first time to share perspectives, identify priorities, and envision what sustainable rural health looks like across Western North Carolina.

Grounded in community voice, members reviewed findings from our Regional Needs Assessment (RNA) alongside insights gathered across our August community sessions. We are deeply grateful to every leader, provider, and advocate who brought their expertise, experience, and commitment to the table. This work is at its strongest and most lasting when it is built with our communities, not for them.

We look forward to carrying this momentum forward as we translate this rich feedback into coordinated regional action.

What’s the difference between food access and Food is Medicine?

Food access is foundational to health, but “food access” and “food is medicine” are not interchangeable.

Last week, a few of our Impact Health staff joined rural health leaders and community partners at SparkPoint’s WNC Regional Rural Health Convening.

We spent the day connecting with partners from across Western North Carolina to share what we’re learning and talk about how we can work together to strengthen rural health.

Our CEO, Laurie Stradley, also shared an update on the NC Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), highlighting the opportunities ahead and the importance of working together to build a stronger future for rural communities across our region.

What does it take to build lasting rural health infrastructure?

A new article in the North Carolina Medical Journal explores the “living infrastructure” behind Food is Medicine in North Carolina—and why the relationships, community organizations, farmers, technology, and local systems that make this work possible matter just as much as the food itself.

We’re proud to see several of our partners, including Caja Solidaria and TRACTOR Food and Farms, contributing to this important conversation about how we can strengthen rural communities and build more sustainable approaches to whole-person health.
