The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has opened the public scoping process for LED Enterprises’ proposed Yuma Pipeline Project, a planned 138-mile, 30-inch natural gas pipeline across Maricopa and Yuma counties in Arizona.

The project is designed to transport approximately 800 MMcf/d of natural gas to support growing power generation, industrial, residential, and other demand in the Yuma area, across Arizona, and in northwest Mexico. The project would also include two-meter stations and 10 mainline valves.

FERC’s environmental review is now underway as part of the project’s pre-filing process.

The EPA has finalized its repeal of greenhouse gas emissions limits on fossil fuel power plants. This change comes as developers are planning a sizable expansion of U.S. gas-fired generation to serve the growing electricity demand.

More gas-fired generation would also create additional demand for gas pipelines and storage, especially in regions where new power plants and data centers are developing faster than the current available pipeline capacity.

More natural gas generation means more demand for natural gas infrastructure.

Earlier this month, Enbridge Inc. announced that President and CEO Greg Ebel will retire at the end of this year, with Michele Harradence set to succeed him as President, CEO, and a member of the Board effective January 1, 2027. Ebel will remain on Enbridge’s Board and serve as an advisor through May 2027.

During his tenure, Ebel steered Enbridge through significant growth, including the Spectra Energy merger, the development of a $41 billion growth project backlog, and the expansion of Enbridge’s natural gas business through the Dominion Energy utility acquisitions.

Harradence brings extensive leadership experience across Enbridge’s gas distribution and gas transmission and midstream businesses, including the integration of U.S. utility acquisitions that helped make Enbridge one of North America's largest gas utility platforms.
