Menstrual health resources are not always designed with autistic people and people with developmental disabilities in mind.

That gap can be especially significant for people who are minimally verbal, non-speaking, or have profound autism.

With support from an OAR resource grant, Dr. Rebecca Barall is developing a practical assessment and curriculum manual to help caregivers and practitioners better understand individual needs related to menstrual care, including communication, hygiene, sensory needs, comfort, and independence.

The goal is to make menstrual health support more accessible, individualized, and respectful.
