We had a fantastic monthly meeting this past Monday, May 4th! A huge thank you to Christine Ramsey from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for an incredibly informative presentation.

Christine shared some expert tips to help us grow our roots:
✅ Always verify information before adding it to your tree.
✅ Focus on one person at a time to stay organized and accurate.
✅ Master record searches to find those missing details.
✅ Add sources and memories to bring your ancestors' stories to life.

If you missed the session, don't worry! Christine has graciously allowed us to share her presentation materials. To get a copy, just call or email the ACGS Research Center.

ACGS members enjoyed two great outings in April, and our first stop was the Anderson Probate Office, where Kelly Horne gave us an amazing behind the scenes tour of marriage licenses, wills, trusts, estate records, and more. She showed us how to navigate the room, how to search older vs. newer records, and introduced us to ACPASS. We even squeezed in some research of our own. Huge thanks to Kelly for such a helpful and informative visit!

Our second April outing brought us to the Register of Deeds Office, where Cynthia Radford gave us a great tour of the POA, land deed, plat, and tax map room. She also introduced us to the R.E.A.A.C.T. program — a free alert system that notifies property owners of any activity recorded under their name.
So much good work is happening in Anderson, and we’re lucky to have Cynthia and Kelly leading the way in keeping residents informed and protected.

Our April 6 monthly meeting at the Senior Solutions Center was both informative and enjoyable. Our guest speaker, Josh Johnson, Curator/Archivist of the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of SC, gave a fascinating presentation on Reconstruction in Anderson County from 1865–1876.
He captivated everyone with stories about the political events of the era, including the 1868 election and Wade Hampton’s run for governor. He also shared a few myths surrounding Mance Jolly and spoke about the Freedmen’s Bureau. His stories and slides were thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance.
We hope Josh will return sometime to take us back to those good old days. Special thanks to Terry Hall for securing him as one of our speakers this year.
